Colleen Caldwell Harrison

Colleen Caldwell Harrison, 83, our compassionate beautiful, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend died August 19th surrounded by family after suffering a massive stroke.
Colleen was born September 22, 1929, to John Walker Caldwell and Nancy May Davis Caldwell in Salt Lake City, Utah. The next year her brother Clark was born, giving her a wonderful friend for life.
Colleen graduated from South High School in 1946. She graduated from the Saint Mark’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She worked at the Salt Lake County Hospital and helped move the hospital to the University of Utah in 1965. There she worked in the OB/GYN Department for more than 25 years, retiring in 1992.
As a single mother, Colleen, made time to be with her children, sewing clothes with her daughter,going to scouting activities with her son and enjoying many vacations with her parents and children.
Colleen was always serving others. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she had many callings where she made many lasting friends. She served as a Primary teacher, Singles Adult Representative and Relief Society President. She also volunteered in the SLCPD Mobile Watch and Handicapped Parking.
Colleen always was working to learn or perfect a talent. Her family all treasure her knitted afghans and sweaters. She took care of Grandma Caldwell’s roses, keeping them beautiful and prized. She enjoyed her quilting club and had annual season tickets with her friends to the Hale Theater. She loved to do crossword puzzles daily with her best friend Winnie. She was the designated driver for church, activities and doctor appointments for Winnie and her other friend Dixie. She always remembered family and friends birthdays by sending Hallmark cards. She always made molasses cookies to give to grandchildren to take home after visits.
Colleen is survived by her brother, Clark D Caldwell (Diane Silcox), daughter, Kriste Harrison Bennett (Don Lane Bennett); son, Mark Richard Harrison (Kim Lamb Harrison); Seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, Nathan Don Bennett (Jessica Chapman) Maiya, Paisley, Noah, Aiylora, Xailyn & Ian; Natalie Bennett; Aaron Walker Bennett (Charlotte Lundell, almost a Bennett); Stephanie Bennett Evans (Marcus Evans); David Brian Bennett (Cyndi Thompson), Brock; Nicholas Mark Harrison, Alexander Jay Harrison and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viewing and Funeral Service will be held Thursday, August 22nd at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, Salt Lake City, 2350 East 1300 South. Viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:45 AM with services immediately following. Interment will be in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian Fund.
