Lyla Finau Nock has been with Larkin since August 2014. My husband Dan and I have 7 children and 4 grandchildren. We are so happy to live in Utah with some of our children and grandson. We were both raised in Pittsburgh, Pa. and we raised our family in a small southern town called Kinston, NC.

I was raised by a single mother from Tonga, along with 5 older sisters. My mother Tilini suffered from heart disease and underwent major surgery in 1974. This prompted her to start her own preened plan, purchasing plots, casket, services etc…because she did not want the stress of planning a funeral to fall upon her young daughters. In 2011, my angel mother passed away. As heartbreaking as this event was for our family, the burden of paying for a funeral was not an issue.

I realized many years later that my mother gave us a gift. She allowed us to mourn her, and not the details of planning and paying for her funeral. She picked out her services and merchandise so we didn’t have too. She took her time paying for everything, even her flowers. She thought of every detail. She gave us the gift of being with family, reflecting on the beautiful person she was and the amazing life she lived. We were not left with trying to “figure out” what she would’ve wanted!

Larkin took great care of her, even before I was part of the Larkin Company. I was one of the many families they tenderly served. They, along with my moms preplanning, made one of the worst days of my life bearable.

I’m so grateful that I have the opportunity to help others, give the gift of preplanning to their loved ones, like my mother gave to me.
