Alan Joseph Phillip Sauric (just call him AL) was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 7, 1950 to Olga May Nanigar and Joseph Sauric, Junior, with solid Slovenian ancestry. He was their third son. Al looked up to his big brothers, Joey and Andy, though not for long because Al grew to be 6’ 4” in a family all under 5’ 10”.

Al always loved sports, first baseball, then basketball and golf. When his knees didn’t allow him to play anymore, he became a great observer as a fan of the Cleveland Indians, Ohio State Buckeyes, Utah Jazz and mostly the Cleveland Browns. Al served in the United States Air Force. While stationed in Viet Nam he was baptized in the South China Sea to become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He cherished his membership in that Church and served in many loved church callings.

He married Patricia Susan Hadden and they were blessed with four children, twin boys Christopher Lee and Scott Alan; his only daughter, Brandy Marie; and his youngest son Cody Andrew.  He became grandpa to Chancee, Kennadee, Abee, Brinlee, Beau, Jakob, Brea, Avery, Izzy and Damon. He later married Janis Allred and he inherited more kids and many more grandkids. He loved his family.

After many heart surgeries and procedures, a few new parts and a fight with diabetes his heart gave up on May 7, 2019.  Al received great care through the years from many doctors and the teams at TOSH, University of Utah Hospital and IMC. There were many angels in his life, the last of which was Nurse Heidi in ICU at IMC. Thanks to modern medicine and devoted professionals, his life was extended.  He was proud to make it to age 69.

Al is survived by his brother Andy, wife Janis, four children Cody, Brandy, Chris and Scott, many grandchildren, his dear friend 98-year old Pearl Cressall, his sidekick and well-loved dog Roni, and many extended family members and friends who will love him beyond this life.  You can honor Al’s memory by loving your pet, cheering for your favorite team or holding the hand of a loved one.

Funeral services to honor Al will be held on Monday, May 13th at 11:00 a.m at Sandy Midvalley 5th Ward, 1175 East 7800 South, Sandy. Friends are invited to greet the family during the viewings on Sunday, May 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Monday, May 13th from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow services at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy.

REST IN PEACE, BIG AL!
