Billie Joyce Bunnell Allington passed away sweetly, holding her husband’s hand surrounded by family and friends on both sides of the veil on Thursday, November 2, 2017.

Billie was born in Provo, Utah, November 17, 1930 to Clyde and Inez Bunnell. She grew up in Billings, Montana. In 1947 at the age of 16, her family moved her senior year to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she attended East High. She attended the University of Utah, where she participated in Lambda Delta Sigma, where she met her future husband, Darrel Allington. They dated some, and when Darrel was serving an LDS mission in the Great Lakes Mission, Billie worked as a legal secretary and completed her degree at the University, graduating majoring in Spanish and minoring in French and German in 1952. On March 20, 1953, Billie married Ervin Darrel Allington in the Salt Lake Temple. They welcomed a son, Daniel Ervin, and a daughter, Linda Marie, into their home. Billie and Darrel diligently taught their children the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and a love of diverse people, languages and cultures. They also inspired a love of learning.

Billie served and taught in Sunday School, Primary, and Relief Society. She enjoyed many crafts, and decorated her home differently each month. She created traditions around all the holidays. Many of these traditions persist with her posterity, who love her so much for all she did for them.

Billie is survived by her husband Darrel; son Daniel (Cynthia) Allington; daughter Linda Allington; son Luis (Jacquie) Aveytya; grandchildren Elizabeth, Tzeitel, Kiara and Djosen; and 5 and ½ great-grandchildren.

Special thanks go to Dr. John Dietlein, Cornerstone Hospice, and Wentworth Assisted Living and all their caregivers for their loving and professional care.

Funeral services will be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, on Saturday, November 11, at 2 pm. Well-wishers are warmly invited to greet the family 2 hours before the funeral. In lieu of flowers, Billie requested donations be made in her name to Primary Children’s Hospital or Best Friends Animal Society. Thank you.

  • I was sorry to read of the passing of Billie Joyce today in the newspaper. I remember lots of fun times at our grandparents home Ed and Gwen Lewis in Lindon, I loved to visit her mother aunt Inez after the family moved to Salt Lake. My mother and dad Eva and Earl Loader loved to have aunt Inez come when she was young before she was married . They had lots of fun together.

I would like Linda or Darrel to call me, as I don’t think I will be able to attend the funeral. I don’t drive anymore as I am 92 years old. I would like to talk to you. Linda I think you might remember me as I visited with your grandmother Inez in the care center. My other sisters Jean, Dot, and Earlene have all passed away. Which leaves me the last one of Earl and Eva’s children.

My home phone is 801-226-2288 and my address is 254 East 130 North in Orem, UT 84057.

Would you send me a program of your mothers funeral with a note and your numbers or address. I would love to talk to you as there are very few of us left.

    Love, you cousin Barbara Baxter

  • Grandma was and is an extraordinary woman. She adopted me into her family and I️ never felt I️ was not hers. She taught me about literature, music, and art. We shared the passion for decorating and enjoyed doing it together as she helped me make my house a home. She shared stories of her growing up and travels as well as hillarious experiences with Grandpa. I️ will miss her terribly but I️ know I️ will see her again. Grandpa, Linda, and Dan, i love you.
