Dear Bateman Family:
Stormy, Summer and I send our love your way at this time of loss. Some of my most cherished childhood memories involved Uncle Dee and Aunt Lori (even though my brother Hal was always Lori’s favorite). Whether it was swimming in their back yard pool, playing tennis at the neighbors, shooting pool in the basement or me pulling cousins on skateboards behind my car in the street in front of their home……there was always fun and laughter when the Bateman and Draney families got together. There was plenty of good-hearted humor and stories to go around with our dad Harold and Uncle Dee in the room.
One summer while I was going to college Dee hired me as an extra pair of hands for a Utah Dairy Council commercial he was producing involving BYU Coach Lavell Edwards. Dee tried to get Lavell to be more animated in one scene where football players were flying by the coach left and right tackling each other as Lavell said his few lines. Lavell turned to Dee with a cocky smile and said “If you need more animated, you need to get Coach Whittingham….not me”. Uncle Dee shared his love of film and photography with me in other ways. He bought me my first camera prior to going on my mission to England. He also purchased a very nice SLR camera for me following the completion of my Master’s degree.
Uncle Dee, the Draney family already misses you and wants you to know of our love. Our mom Peggy (your sister) sends her love as well. We pray Aunt Lori and each of our Bateman cousins will find some measure of peace in a lifetime of beautiful memories shared.
Love, Frank, Stormy & Summer Draney

When we gathered for out annual empty-nesters New Year’s Eve party, I think we all thought of about a decade’s worth of such celebrations at the Bateman estate, with Darrel carving the prime rib and making wise cracks. The world lost a good man, one of a kind. Our sympathy and love to your family.
