01/12/1951 - 04/29/2019
Gary Sugino passed away on April 29th, 2019 due to colon cancer. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 12th, 1951 to Akiko Kawata and Bob Sugino. Gary was the oldest of his siblings and had three brothers; Mike (Mesa, AZ), Dale (deceased), and Alan (Lynnwood, WA). He graduated from South High School in 1969.
Gary married Barrie J. Fleming on August 30th, 1992. They had two kids; their son, Christopher Ames, and their daughter, Corinne Sugino. Gary loved both of his children very much.
As a youth Gary enjoyed baseball, playing from the Little League to the Industrial League. In his later years, he enjoyed trips to casinos in Wendover with his father, family reunions, and family dinners during the holidays. He worked at the Union Pacific Railroad for over 30 years and retired as a material foreman in November 2018.
Gary is survived by his father, brothers Mike and Alan, his children, and many cousins. Gary was hoping to visit Portland with his family in May and to attend the family reunion in July. Unfortunately, due to the progression of his cancer, he was unable to do so. However, he was able to spend the last few weeks of his life in the comforts of his own home, with several family members taking care of him and coming to visit him. It was Gary’s request that his body be cremated and that there be no service. He will be missed dearly by his loved ones.
