In Loving Memory of Alyia Hope Argyle
April 23, 2010 – August 21, 2026
Alyia Hope Argyle, beloved daughter, sister, friend, and a light to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 21, 2026, at just 16 years old.
Alyia was born on April 23, 2010, and was proudly born and raised in Sandy, Utah. She loved her name, Alyia Hope, and she lived up to every bit of the hope and light it carried.
To know Alyia was to feel loved. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel like her best friend. She made friends everywhere she went and never seemed to pass someone without finding a way to compliment them, encourage them, or make them feel better. She was kind, genuine, supportive, positive, and full of wisdom far beyond her years. People came to Alyia for advice because she was grounded, honest, and mature enough to understand even the hardest situations.
Alyia believed life was meant to be enjoyed, and she lived for every moment. She loved fiercely and accepted people exactly as they were. Around Alyia, no one had to pretend to be someone they weren’t. She believed everyone deserved to be themselves, but she was also never afraid to stand up for what she believed in. She was brave not because she wasn’t afraid, but because she did things even when they scared her.
Alyia often said, “It takes zero energy to be a good person.” She didn’t just say it; she lived it. She remembered birthdays and special moments, made extra treats to share with friends and neighbors, and was always looking for another opportunity to spread love. Her kindness was intentional. She made people feel seen, valued, and important.
Alyia was a junior at Alta High School, where she loved school and especially enjoyed Woods and Cooking classes. She played lacrosse and loved the friendships and memories she made through the sport. She also played the cello. She dreamed excitedly about her future going to college, traveling the world, living with friends, and becoming a teacher. She wanted to be the kind of teacher who made children love school and learning, inspired by the amazing teachers who had made a difference in her own life.
She was also an adventurer. Alyia ran nine half marathons with her mom, and just two weeks before her passing, she climbed Timpanogos Peak. She was exhausted and didn’t feel well during that hike. She wanted to give up many times, but she kept going. Even when she was struggling herself, she spent much of the hike encouraging everyone else. That was Alyia determined to keep moving forward while making sure everyone around her knew they could do it too.
Alyia’s greatest gift was her heart.
She was like a second mom at home, always willing to help with dinner, baking, and whatever needed to be done. She loved making treats and would often make extra so she could share them with friends and neighbors. She was respectful and responsible, but she never forgot to have fun.
And she was incredibly silly.
She had the best laugh and was never afraid to be goofy. She would stay after lacrosse just to goof off with her friends. She lost everything she owned right before she needed it, needed the TV playing even while she was watching something on her phone, loved Roblox especially 99 and Flee the Facility and somehow managed to snore and talk in her sleep. These little things will be missed just as much as the big ones, because they were simply Alyia being Alyia.
Alyia’s love for her siblings was immeasurable. She and Grayson shared an especially precious bond; he worshipped his sister, and she loved him with everything she had. Alyia and Melaina were best friends who talked about everything. She and Hadley sometimes butted heads because they were so much alike, but Alyia always knew when Hadley needed her and would make time to take her out one-on-one. She and Sloan were partners in crime, feeding off each other’s funny energy. With the girls, Alyia had “sleepovers” every chance they could get. She made sure to build a unique bond with each of her siblings and always seemed to know when one of them needed her.
But perhaps the most extraordinary relationship Alyia had was with her mom.
Alyia was her mom’s person and her soulmate. They supported each other through everything. Alyia constantly encouraged her mom, reminded her how strong she was, and helped her believe in herself. She once told her mom that she wished all of her friends could have her for a mom.
Together, shared countless conversations, and built a bond that words can hardly describe. Shortly before Alyia passed, she made sure her mom knew she loved her and held her in one of her unforgettable, tight hugs.
Alyia was deeply loved by her family, her friends, and countless people whose lives she touched. She leaves behind a legacy that is far greater than the number of years she was given.
She leaves behind courage.
She leaves behind kindness.
She leaves behind laughter.
She leaves behind fierce love.
She leaves behind the reminder that everyone deserves to be accepted for who they are.
And she leaves behind a challenge to all of us: Be brave. Be kind. Love fiercely.
Alyia was sunshine to everyone around her. She made life better simply by being in it.
Her family hopes that everyone who was lucky enough to know Alyia will carry a piece of her spirit forward. Compliment a stranger. Encourage someone who is struggling. Remember someone’s birthday. Make the extra treat. Be silly. Stand up for what you believe in. Let people be themselves. And when life feels hard, hear Alyia’s voice saying the words she so often gave to others:
“You got this. You are so strong.”
Alyia, you were so loved and appreciated by everyone around you. You made life better for everyone who got to know you. You were literally sunshine to everyone.
We will miss you more than words can ever say. We don’t know how to go on without you, but we promise to try to live the way you taught us—to be brave, to be kind, and to spread your light everywhere we go.
We love you, Alyia. Forever and always.
