Basil married the love of his life, Marjorie Lewis, on June 1, 1954, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

In his younger years, Basil was an accomplished athlete. He proudly played basketball for Tabiona High School and remained a lifelong sports enthusiast. He also had a passion for tennis and enjoyed spending time on the court throughout his life. Whether watching a game, playing one, or cheering others on, sports brought him great joy and created many lasting memories.

Basil owned and operated A&B Glass with business partner and brother-in-law Bob Webb. He took pride in his craftsmanship, his work ethic, and the relationships he built with customers and those in his community. He believed in the value of honest work and lending a helping hand. Throughout his life, he touched the lives of countless family members, friends, and neighbors.

Basil had a passion for antiques and could often be found spending weekends at local swap meets. He loved the thrill of finding hidden treasures and was known for his negotiating skills.

Basil also had a love for the outdoors. He treasured every opportunity to spend time in Tabiona on “Tabby Mountain”, a place that held a special place in his heart.

Basil was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he served in many callings. Among those was his service as a counselor in the Rose Park 10th Ward. Basil and Marjorie faithfully served a mission for the church at Welfare Square in Salt Lake City, UT.

He shared a lifetime of love with his beloved wife, Marjorie Lewis Defa, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Ricky Defa.
