Betty Joan Newbold
July 10, 1938 – July 5, 2026
Betty Joan Newbold passed away peacefully at her home on July 5, 2026, just days before her 88th birthday. Born in Coalville, Utah, and raised in Vernal, Betty grew up with a deep love for music, sports, and community—passions she carried throughout her life.
Betty was an avid athlete and competitor. She played softball in school and later coached her daughters’ teams, creating cherished memories on and off the field. She bowled in a women’s league, proudly earning a place in the 215 Club. Her love of music was just as strong. She played the clarinet in her high school band, enjoyed singing in her church choir, and found joy at the piano throughout her life.
After moving to Salt Lake City, Betty met the love of her life, Gene. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple, building a life centered on faith, family, and service. Betty served as President of the Lady Lions Club and worked at Walker Bank before spending many years as a library assistant at Union Middle School and Hillcrest High School, where she touched the lives of countless students.
Betty treasured time spent outdoors, especially the many camping trips shared with family and friends. These adventures became beloved traditions filled with laughter, stories, and togetherness.
Above all, Betty was a devoted and involved grandmother. She was endlessly proud of her grandchildren and loved being part of their lives. Many summer days and school breaks were spent with Grandma and Grandpa, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, and her son, Clark.
She is survived by her son Greg (Sharon) Newbold, daughter Jalene (Bob) Ward, four grandchildren, and six great‑grandchildren.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Intermountain Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
