December 16, 1935•May 22, 2026
Cherie Woodbury Hyde always kept the candy drawer stocked and her heart full of joy. After 90 years of spreading goodwill to those around her, she passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, with her family by her side, in Bountiful, Utah.
Cherie was born on December 16, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to T. Bowring (By) and Beulah (Bubbles) Woodbury. Cherie is survived by her sister, Wendy Cederlof, and her brother, Beau Woodbury. Cherie buried one child, David Stevens, Jr., and leaves behind six other children, whether by birth or by the sheer force of her love for them, and theirs for her. She is survived by Michelle Zwick (Jeff), Shauna Maxwell (Arthur), Matthew Stevens (Ann), and Christie Henggeler (Roger), children from her first marriage to David Stevens. She welcomed Lisa Wallace (Brian) and Rebecca Skordas (Greg) into her heart after marrying her soul-mate, Garold Ashel Hyde, her husband of 44 years. She also leaves behind 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, who adored her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, David, and her granddaughter, Andrea.
Cherie grew up in Wichita, Kansas, and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Cherie attended BYU as a freshman and then later finished her bachelor's degree at the University of Utah while raising five children as a single parent.
Cherie’s kind and compassionate nature led her to a career in Special Education for several years in and around the Salt Lake area. Cherie married Gary in 1976 in the Salt Lake City temple. In 1983, she and Gary moved to Ventura, California, where they lived for 9 years while Gary worked for LDS Social Services. Later in life, the time Gary and Cherie spent together as missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, twice in England and at home as Family History, Addiction Recovery, and full-time Stake missionaries, was deeply special and rewarding for both of them. Her indomitable and generous spirit touched the lives of countless people. They also served together for many years in the Bountiful, Utah temple. Gary and Cherie lived to serve and forged a bond that death could not break.
Cherie loved listening to music, reading books, cooking for her family, camping with Gary, and serving others. She never met a stranger in her entire life. She greeted everyone, friend or stranger, with a warm smile and a hug. She had a gift for drawing people to her. She genuinely cared about other people's circumstances and feelings. She would listen to a person in need for hours and could always find a way to relate to them. She especially loved to hear other people’s love stories.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on June 5, 2026, at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT, preceded by a brief viewing period from 9:30-10:30 am. Cherie will be laid to rest beside Gary at the Kaysville cemetery.
Our family would like to thank the nurses, medical technicians, and CNAs at Barton Creek in Bountiful for the loving care they gave her. Thank you for taking the time to treat her as a friend instead of a patient. We would also like to thank the hospice team at CNS for supporting and guiding us through Cherie’s last week.
