Cody Brett Callaway, 55, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Cody was born on March 11, 1971, in Thousand Oaks, California, to Roy and Robyne Callaway.

Cody grew up in Logan, Utah, and graduated from Logan High School in 1989. As a kid, he was curious, fun-loving, and always determined to understand how things worked. Family members remember Cody taking things apart, including a Christmas-morning racetrack with cars, just to figure out how the headlights worked. Another time, he announced he was “practicing” his sawing skills while cutting into the deck railing.

He loved building bike jumps, fishing on family trips, humming the theme to Star Wars over and over again, and persuading friends into one more adventure, usually with a big grin on his face.

Cody proudly served in the United States Army, including time with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was deeply proud of his service as a stinger missile gunner and Army veteran, and that chapter of his life remained meaningful to him.

Cody had the most infectious smile. He was funny, loyal, passionate, and full of heart. He loved his sports teams deeply, especially BYU, the Dodgers, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Utah Jazz. Most recently, he brought his family together through a March Madness tournament, complete with a big trophy to be engraved and passed on year after year.

Cody also shared a special bond with his loyal boxer, Bo, who was his best friend and rarely far from his side.

Cody had a compassionate and steady way with older adults and spent years working in roles supporting elder care. He was valued and remembered by many for the respect, kindness, and dignity he showed to those he cared for.

Cody believed that Christ showed the way to love, and in his own complicated, imperfect, and deeply human way, he was desperately trying to get there. He was also a man who carried deep struggles in this life. Those who loved him knew both his light and his pain. His passing by suicide is a heartbreak that leaves behind grief, questions, and the ache of all that could not be healed here. And still, his family chooses to remember him with love, honesty, and tenderness.

Cody married Laurie Taylor Callaway on November 20, 2021. Laurie was, without question, the love of his life. He adored her deeply and often credited her with helping him find more peace later in life. They loved working out together, sharing a love for the outdoors, finding peace in nature together, and making memories in the everyday moments. Laurie knew Cody in a way few people did, and her love was one of the greatest gifts of his life.

Cody is survived by his wife, Laurie; his parents, Roy and Robyne Callaway of Orem, Utah; his children, Morgan Hill-Callaway and Lisa of North Hills, California, and Atticus Callaway and Rachael of Roy, Utah; and two granddaughters.

He is also survived by his sisters, Eryn Erickson and James of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and Meghann Mundt and Griffin of Gilbert, Arizona; his brother, Conor Callaway and Tara of Lehi, Utah; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his niece, Mandy; and his loyal dog, Bo.

Cody’s life was not simple, and neither is the grief of losing him. He was loved deeply. He struggled deeply. And his family is grateful to believe that he is finally at peace.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 19, 2026 at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park Chapel, located at 17111 South Redwood Road in Bluffdale, UT. A visitation will be held prior beginning at 10:00 AM. Graveside services will Military Funeral Honors will follow.

Cody’s family will carry forward the love, the lessons, the grief, and the hope for peace that now surrounds his memory.
