Franklin Ian Fugitt, age 37, passed away on May 7, 2026, in South Jordan, Utah. He was born on December 26, 1988, in Columbus, Ohio.
Ian was born with complex medical needs that resulted in lifelong physical challenges, which he faced with remarkable courage and perseverance. From an early age, he received early intervention services and worked diligently throughout his life to grow, adapt, and overcome challenges. Although he was never expected to live beyond infancy, Ian defied those expectations. Through the expertise and dedication of his healthcare teams, and with the steadfast support of his family, special education teachers, therapists, healthcare providers, and devoted caregivers, he lived to be 37 years old and experienced many joys throughout his life.
Ian’s most cherished moments were spent snuggling with family, being held while listening to music and eating M&Ms. He also had a mischievous streak and delighted in gently pestering those around him for a sly giggle. Despite his physical challenges, he embraced many of the activities his parents, teachers, and therapists introduced to him, including field trips, travel adventures, concerts, and amusement parks. Among his happiest memories were swimming with dolphins in Key West, Florida, and vacationing with his family on St. George Island.
Ian was known for his warm, gentle smile and his love of music and chocolate ice cream. He could best be described as a true trooper, always pressing forward through challenges in search of joy, comfort, and peace.
Ian is survived by his parents, Robin Aufdenkampe and Marc Levy; his brother, Willis E. Fugitt and his wife Samantha; his nephew, Kenneth Fugitt; his grandmother, Carol Aufdenkampe; his uncles, Carl Aufdenkampe and his wife Gail Savage, and Craig Aufdenkampe and his wife Cindy; and his great-aunt, Judy Pickle and her husband Mac.
Ian will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted family, caregivers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
