Gay Featherstone

May 8, 1935•October 13, 2026

Gay Featherstone was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on May 8, 1935, to Russell and Virginia Dillingham — the first of four beautiful daughters. Gay enjoyed a happy childhood growing up with her sisters, Nancy, Valerie, and Wendy, surrounded by a loving extended family. Blessed with extraordinary musical talent, she spent her early years singing and playing the piano, gifts that would define and enrich her entire life.

A true beauty in every sense, Gay caught the eye and heart of Ken Featherstone in high school. They fell in love and were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 12, 1953. Together, Ken and Gay raised three children — Kelly, Debra, and Ed — building a life across Salt Lake City, Utah; Billings, Montana; Boise, Idaho; and Anaheim, California, before ultimately returning home to Salt Lake City.

Gay had a remarkable gift for friendship, gathering and holding dear friends wherever life took her. She loved performing in musical theater and singing with multiple groups and quartets. She could throw a mean bowling ball and an occasionally wicked golf shot. For years, she taught piano to a devoted stream of students, including many of her own children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. An accomplished pianist, Gay brought the gift of music into countless lives — a legacy that will continue to resonate for generations.

Gay was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She served faithfully in many callings and leadership positions including Ward Relief Society President, where she ministered to many, sharing her joyful friendship and love. One of her favorite callings was serving many years as a church service missionary at the Conference Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with her husband Ken.

Above all, family was everything to Gay and the greatest joy of her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ken. The beautiful family they built together has grown to include 13 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren, along with their wonderful spouses and partners. Our lives are filled with beautiful moments and the very best of memories because of her.

Kelly and Valerie Featherstone, Debra and Lloyd Denison, and Ed and JoAnn Featherstone are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support. We are especially thankful for the family and friends who love her so dearly, and for the tender care she received in Kelly and Valerie's home during her final years.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 7 at the Butler Park Ward located at 2895 E. Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights, UT, beginning with a visitation from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. followed by service at noon. Interment will take place at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
