James "Jim" Robertson Fraser

December 30, 1943•September 29, 2026

James Robertson Fraser (Jim), 82, returned home to his Heavenly Father on September 29, 2026. Our devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed peacefully on the morning of the 29th. His kindness and service touched everyone who knew him.

Jim was born on December 30, 1943, in Aberdeen, Scotland, to James Fraser and Elizabeth Duthie Fraser. He grew up the third of five children. He loved each of his siblings, Evie, Irene, Sandy and Stan. He had many fond memories of their childhood together. His dad worked at a paper mill.

While growing up in Aberdeen, he enjoyed playing soccer. His favorite position to play was goalie. He really thrived in school and enjoyed learning.

At 16, he left school and moved to London to focus on work. He worked for a telephone company for a year, while still visiting his family when he could. During his time in London, he loved to play the drums and performed in a band.

At 18, he moved back to Aberdeen, and became more involved with the missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Shortly after, he joined the church and found joy in spreading the gospel with others.

At 20, by the help of one of the sister missionaries, he was able to get sponsorship to move to the United States. This is so that he could seek a life that provided grander opportunities.

By 21, Jim decided to move to the United States for more career opportunities. He decided to move to the Salt Lake City area to be around more Latter-day Saints.

His first job when he moved to Salt Lake City was with Walker Bank as a debt collector, repossessing cars. He then later was promoted to several different positions there. This included bank runner, loan officer, secretary, and then branch president.

As the Vietnam War approached, Jim decided to go back into school full-time, at the University of Utah, majoring in banking. This was while also managing his full-time job. In this great balancing act, he managed to keep up his grades in all of his classes, never below a B+.

At Walker Bank is where he met Sharon, the love of his life. They were married on October 15, 1965, by Gordon B. Hinckley in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for nearly 61 years. Together they raised 5 wonderful children: Lisa, Angie, Steve, Scott and Jenn. They were his pride and joy.

Jim served faithfully in many church callings throughout his life, many of which were leadership positions. He especially loved home teaching and ministering to families in their homes. He never missed a month when it came to checking in on his families.

In 1978, he was asked to organize and start a new bank, which became Brighton Bank. As one of the founders, he became one of the youngest presidents and CEO’s in Utah. At Brighton Bank, he was known for his precision and leadership. He memorized and kept track of all the money that was coming in and out of the company. With a pen and a yellow pad, he was unstoppable. Eventually, he made Brighton Bank one of the most profitable banks in the country. He also took great pride in providing quality customer service to those he worked with.

At 57 years old, he retired from the banking world to spend more time with his family and grandchildren. Jim’s love for his family was as endless as his generosity, and found great happiness in spending time with them. One of his favorite things to do was to watch his grandchildren in their many activities. Whether it was sporting events, recitals, performances or graduations, he was always there. He was in the stands, in the audience, or celebrating with them afterwards. He loved watching them grow and took great pride in each of their accomplishments.

He loved any opportunity to get the family together and was the first to jump in and have fun. He always looked forward to family vacations and the opportunity to be together.

After retirement, he started teaching at BYU’s Marriott School of Business. He enjoyed passing on his business savvy and knowledge to future generations of entrepreneurs and business leaders.

Jim loved going to the temple. He set a goal to go to all of them throughout the world. He ended up visiting a total of 170 temples. By 2020, he was all caught up to this impressive goal. His love of travel and visiting temples led him to visiting all 50 states and 6 out of the 7 continents. He especially loved travel destinations that were near the ocean. He loved taking walks along the beach and breathing in the ocean air.

Activities that he loved doing with his kids and grandkids included golfing, attending Utah Jazz and BYU games, and attending musicals and plays.

He was an avid reader, and thoroughly enjoyed reading the newspaper everyday.

He also had quite the sweet tooth, his favorite desserts were ice cream and doughnuts.

Jim was also quite the people person. He loved talking to people and getting to know who they were and what was going on in their lives.

He was a very generous man and an extremely hard worker. He always looked for opportunities to serve others and give back to whoever was in need. Other great qualities he possessed were honesty, integrity and positivity. He always believed in looking at life’s challenges with a glass half full mentality.

In his later years, though as he was no longer able to participate in as many of the activities he once enjoyed, Jim’s greatest joy came from watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren make memories of their own, and loved hearing about their lives. Seeing them laugh, play, and enjoy being together brought him immense happiness.

He truly touched the lives of many in the communities he lived in. Most notably, Sandy, Utah, Draper, Utah, Scottsdale, Arizona and finally Washington, Utah and the greater St. George area.

He truly was the best husband, dad and grandpa. We love you, we miss you, and we can’t wait till we get to see you again.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon Fraser; his children, Lisa (Chad) Fife, Angie (Mike) Haslam, Steve Fraser, and Jenn Pilch; his older sister, Irene and younger brother Sandy. 12 grandchildren: Colbey (Rylee), Nathan (Hanna), Alex (Madison), Morgan, Parker (Kayli), Preston, Andrew, Tyler, Emily, Spencer (Alexa), Bennett and Georgia. 5 great grandchildren: Indie & Iver Fife, Austyn & Rowyn Fife, Rhett Haslam, along with a 6th great grandson on the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James & Elizabeth Fraser; siblings: Stan & Evie Fraser; son: Scott Fraser.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens located at 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.) Sandy, UT 84092. Prior to the funeral service, a viewing will be held from 12:30-1:45 pm.
