John Sizemore

September 9, 1982•September 17, 2026

John Maxwell Sizemore, born September 9, 1982, in Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 17, 2026, in Houston, TX, surrounded by love.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Melissa Layne Williamson Sizemore; his son and the light of his life, Owen Maxwell Sizemore (18 months old); and his mother, Marsha Doane Sizemore. He is also survived by his siblings, Robert Sizemore (Brittany), Michael Sizemore (Aimee), Steven Sizemore (Stephanie), Jacob Sizemore (Alison), Thomas Sizemore (Katherine), and Melissa Owen (Raymond). He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Charles Sizemore.

As a child, John was happiest following his 3 older brothers, keeping up with their adventures around the neighborhood. As a teen, he was a stellar athlete, representing Timpview High as a wrestler at the State Championship. He also played football at Jackson Hole High School and Timpview High School before attending Utah Valley State College.

Through young adulthood, John struggled with addiction yet still chose optimism and ultimately went on to bring the light of Christ into some of the darkest places this world knows. He maintained relationships with his younger siblings and tried his best to mend what had been broken. He was the self-proclaimed “prodigal son” who came home addiction-free because of those who believed in him and through his own faith and enduring testimony of Christ.

In his 30s, John built a successful career in commercial and residential construction. He took pride in being able to solve problems, create, and use his skills to help others. He loved helping. Even when he didn’t have much to give, John would always find a way to help because he knew what a moment of kindness could do on someone’s darkest day.

John met the love of his life, Melissa Williamson, in 2020, and they were married in Alabama in 2025. Becoming a husband and father to Owen was the greatest blessing of John’s life, and he put his family at the center of everything he did. Cancer came in the sweetest chapters of life. John endured as long as he could. It may have taken his strength and ultimately his life, but it never took away the love, faith, kindness, and light that made John who he was.

John had a heart for people. Those who knew him as a friend are truly grateful to have known him. He was a great source of support for his mother, younger sister, and brothers. He will be remembered for his kindness, his work ethic, and the way he went after life with all he had.

May you rest in the arms of your Savior, Jesus Christ, until the day we are together again.
