Mara Hurst Behrmann was born July 16, 1963, in Bryn Mawr, PA as the youngest child of Stanley and Shirley Hurst. Mara is survived by all her sisters and brothers and their spouses: Robin (sister) and Eric Harrison, Debra (sister) and Larry Loftus, Guy (brother) and Corinne Hurst, Mark (brother) and Sonya Hurst. She was married for time and eternity on August 23, 1988, to Lawrence James Behrmann in the Denver Colorado Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mara is also survived by her husband Lawrence James Behrmann and her children: Laurie Anne Behrmann (daughter), David Aaron Behrmann (son) and wife Celestial Behrmann, and Steven Alexander Behrmann (son). Mara is also survived by her five grandchildren: Aaron, Adam, Henry, Linnea, and William Behrmann.
Mara graduated from Columbine High School, Littleton, CO in 1981 and went on to Brigham Young University eventually earning a Bachelor of Education degree in 1987. She also served as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1984-1986 in the Taichung, Taiwan mission.
Mara’s life was one of continual service in all the places where she resided: Littleton, CO, Provo, UT, Quantico, VA, Newport, RI, Okinawa, Japan, and Houston, TX. Her service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints included various callings in Primary, Relief Society, Young Women, Stake Just Serve Committee, Ward Temple and Family History Consultant, and Temple Ordinance Worker.
Mara also served in her local Scouting community for 22 years. She shared her quality teaching and example to many local youth as: Tiger Den Leader, Wolf Den Leader, Bear Den Leader, Webelos Den Leader, Cub Scout Committee Member, Cub Scout Committee Chairman, Assistant Cubmaster, Cubmaster, District Committee Member, District Cub Scout Committee Chairman (10 years), Council Instructor at University of Scouting, Woodbadge Instructor, 11-year old Scout Leader, Venture Crew advisor (all female crew), and she was a District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver recipient.
Mara will be remembered by those who love her most for sharing her special talents:
Mara will be missed but never forgotten. She will always be loved, and the hope and prayer of future reunions with her will forever sustain us.
There will be another celebration of life in Houston, Texas on July 18, 2026. It will be held at th Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3450 S Dairy Ashford Rd, Houston, TX 77082
