May 22, 1923•September 20, 2026
Margaret Hood Timoney, aged 103, of Sandy, Utah, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, of natural causes. Margaret was born on May 22, 1923, in Richfield, Utah, to Luella Nisha Blomquist and Francis Nichol Hood.
She grew up in Richfield surrounded by a large extended family including her mother, stepfather, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She loved to read and would hide in an apple tree where no one could see her and continue to read while her mother would call her to come into the house and help with chores! She spent summers camping at Fish Lake with friends and family. Margaret graduated from Richfield High School in 1941 and attended LDS School of Nursing from 1941-1943 in Salt Lake City.
While in nursing school, Margaret met and married Army Air Corps Captain Raymond Timoney. During World War II, Margaret and Ray lived stateside in Alabama, Washington, Oklahoma, Iowa and Utah. They eventually settled down in Sandy, Utah, and raised 5 children. Raymond passed away in 1998. Margaret worked as a nurse for the same obstetrician for over 30 years. She lived on her own in her home in Sandy until January of 2024, after she was 100 years old. Margaret moved to Cedarwood Assisted Living in Sandy and was visited by family or friends every day until her passing. A special thank you to Ellen Skoubye Wallace for your loving friendship.
In her 103 years, Margaret saw many changes over her life, from the ice man delivering ice to electric refrigeration; from cooking with coal and wood to electricity and gas; from milking her grandfather’s cow and cooking from scratch to buying everything from a store; from horse and buggy to automobiles and airplanes; from listening to radio shows to watching movies on television and computers.
Margaret loved the Girl Scouts of America and was a troop leader for many years. She was selected as a delegate from the Utah council to attend the Girl Scout National Convention in 1960. Her passion for hiking and tent camping began at Fish Lake and lasted well into her 80s, with camping trips to Canada and many National Parks, including Bryce, Zion, and Grand Canyon.
Margaret loved to read, travel, hike, watch old movies, especially World War II movies and westerns, listen to Big Band music, and anything by Frank Sinatra. Margaret enjoyed good theatre and traveled many times to New York’s Broadway to enjoy plays and musicals. She spent many hours at the Utah Shakespeare Festival and held season tickets for Pioneer Theatre and Ballet West in Salt Lake City for decades. She also enjoyed cheering on the U of U Red Rocks Women’s Gymnastics Team. Margaret was an accomplished seamstress. She made everything from children’s clothing, wedding dresses, wool coats, costumes, and a lot of her own clothing, always from Vogue patterns. She was a wonderful mother and loved spending time with her family.
Margaret is survived by her children: Kathleen Atkinson, Robyn (Doug) Bishop, Sean (Mary Jo Austin) Timoney, Megan (Terry Padilla) Timoney, daughter-in-law, Susie Timoney, 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Timoney; son, Ryan Timoney; son-in-law, Felix Atkinson; her parents, brothers, John Hood, Robin Hood, Rene Fournier; and loving stepfather, LeRoy Fournier.
