October 15, 1952•June 5, 2026
Michael Reed Brough died from cancer on June 5, 2026. He was born October 15, 1952 and raised in Salt Lake City by his parents, Norma Green and Eugene Eschler Brough. He was married and sealed to Linda LeFevre in the Salt Lake Temple on June 27, 1975. Together they raised and loved two sons, Aaron (born 1979) and Andy (born 1985).
At the age of eight, Michael was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while the family lived briefly in Denver, Colorado. After high school, he served a two-year mission in and near Tokyo, Japan. Michael served in various church callings over his lifetime, including scoutmaster and bishop of the University First Ward, a married-student ward at the University of Utah. Michael and Linda enjoyed the experience of making many good friendships with the younger generation.
In particular, Michael loved and cherished his relationships with each of his seven amazing grandchildren. Their love and laughter were his greatest sources of joy. Michael enjoyed a wide variety of activities with his grandkids, from chalk drawing and racing around on tricycles and bicycles in Grandpa’s driveway to visiting Hogle Zoo, This is the Place, Clark Planetarium, the Aquarium, and practicing driving skills in the church parking lot.
In 2021, Michael retired from Zions Bank as a Senior Vice President in the Corporate Lending Division after a 45-year banking career. His undergraduate degree was in Economics at the University of Utah. He served as President of the Mountain States Chapter of RMA (Risk Management Association, formerly Robert Morris Associates) and graduated from the Pacific Coast Banking School in Seattle, WA.
Even after retirement, Michael enjoyed going to lunch with former bank colleagues and clients. He formed life-long friendships with many talented people that he looked up to and received inspiration from, including the owners and servers at restaurants he frequented. Those who knew him best described him as “whimsical.” Michael enjoyed hiking, walking, biking, and scootering around the neighborhood.
As Michael approached the end of his life, he most wanted to repent of his shortcomings, and he focused on sharing his faith in and testimony of the resurrected and living Jesus Christ with his friends and family and anyone else who would listen.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, siblings Diane (David) Henry, Winslow (Kathie), Lynette (Ivan) Hibbert, Richard (Miranda), sons Aaron (Jennifer) and Andy (Teresa), and grandchildren, Joseph, Josh, Ashley, Jacob, Ben, Matthew, and Spencer. He will be greatly missed!
A public visitation will be held at noon on Saturday June 20th at 2215 E. Roosevelt Ave. in Salt Lake City. The funeral begins at 1pm. Services will be live streamed and recorded, click "watch services" to view.
