October 11, 1935•October 3, 2026
Robert George Bruce was born October 11, 1935, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. The son of Jerome and Margaret Bruce, Bob lived a life shaped by hard work, family devotion, and a deep, unwavering Christian faith in the Triune God. He was a loving man whose warmth, humor, and quiet generosity left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
A proud veteran, Bob served in the United States Air Force after high school, training as a medic and completing tours that included Labrador and Florida. His service reflected the same sense of duty and care that defined his civilian life.
After military service, Bob built a long and distinguished career in manufacturing and distribution, rising from hands‑on shop work to leadership roles that took him across the country. He was known for practical problem‑solving, loyalty to colleagues, and a work ethic he passed on to his children. Over decades he helped shape operations at several companies and mentored many younger employees. While working and supporting his family, Bob earned a B.S. degree in Communications and Business Psychology from the University of San Francisco and certification in Distribution and Materials Management from Penn State University.
Faith and church were central to Bob’s life. Active in a number of Lutheran congregations, he and his wife Marie were deeply involved in church life, education, and music. His faith guided his service to others and his commitment to family and community.
Bob married Marie Elizabeth Bilse in 1960; together they raised three children and built a home filled with music, hospitality, and laughter. He was a devoted father to Steven, Thomas, and Beth, and a proud grandfather and great‑grandfather who delighted in family gatherings, stories, and the small rituals that knit a family together. His kindness, practical help, and gentle teasing are remembered by many.
He served his communities in many ways: as a volunteer in local rescue and fire efforts in his younger years, as a leader in church building and school projects, and as a neighbor and friend.
At age 88, Bob wrote his first book “Head of the Herd”, a biography of his family and growing up in Delavan, Wisconsin. A year later, he completed his second book, “The Herd Heritage”, a history of family immigration to the United States.
Bob died October 3, 2026, in his sleep at home and is survived by his wife Marie, sister Donna McFarland, three children Steven (Diane), Thomas (Genia), and Beth (David), six grandchildren and eleven great‑grandchildren who brought him great joy.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 10:00am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Taylorsville, Utah to celebrate Bob’s life and faith. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to the Prince of Peace Lutheran School Building Fund (http://popslc.churchcenter.com/giving) or LCMS Ministry to the Armed Forces (https//www.lcms.org/givenow/maf).
