He was born October 25, 1946, in Portland, Oregon, to Harold E. Turville and Dorothy Richeson, and was raised in the Sugar House area. After marrying Linda Holfeltz, he built a life centered on family, service, and the medical profession.
Roger devoted 40 years of his life to the U.S. Army, serving approximately nine years on active duty and 31 years in the National Guard. He advanced to the rank of Master Sergeant before earning his degree and commissioning as an officer, ultimately retiring as a Captain. In 1990–1991 he deployed for nine months in support of Operation Desert Storm with the 144th Medical Evacuation Hospital.
In civilian life he worked first as a Licensed Practical Nurse and later as a Registered Nurse, serving in hospitals throughout the Salt Lake Valley and as a traveling nurse in other states.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, H. Dennis Turville and Paul Turville.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his four sons—Jason Turville (Stephanie), Ryan Turville (Belen), Samuel Turville (Tristen), and Jeffrey Turville (Jennifer); his sisters LouAnn Gearhart (Mike), Kristine Christensen (Dale), and Janice Blaylock (Rob); 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A devoted husband and father, Roger will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady example, and long service both in uniform and in civilian life. He loved his wife deeply and showed his family, by the way he lived, what it means to be a good husband and father.
