Ruth Elaine Higley Crandall
October 5, 1933 – July 23, 2026
Ruth Elaine Higley Crandall, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, at the age of 92.
Ruth was born on October 5, 1933, in Burmester, Utah to Stephen Lemeul Higley and Maggie May Cartwright. The youngest of ten children, she grew up surrounded by a large family.
Ruth married James Farnsworth, and together they welcomed two children, a son, Brent, and a daughter, Lori. Ruth and James divorced and she later married George “Lindy” Ivan Crandall, with whom she shared many years of memories, until his passing.
Family was at the heart of Ruth’s life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother and took great pride in the generations that followed her. She will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, generosity, story-telling, and strength.
Ruth had a long and admirable career as a bookkeeper at the local dairy. She was a dedicated employee and took great pride in her work until her retirement.
Ruth enjoyed many hobbies and creative outlets. She especially loved quilting, making ceramic dolls, baking homemade bread, canning peaches and pears, and tending her garden. She was also an enthusiastic shopper and never needed much convincing to browse the stores or find something new to bring home. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family doing crafts, watching movies, planning fun summer activities, and taking trips to Disneyland.
Ruth’s faith was an integral part of who she was and remained a source of strength, comfort, and guidance throughout her life. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and her faith shaped many of the values, traditions, and relationships she held dear.
Ruth is survived by her son, Brent (Ginger) Farnsworth; her son-in-law, Calvin Frye; her grandchildren, Ashley (David) Cady, Whitney (Matt) Barber, Chase (Ronit) Frye, Claire Frye, Emma Frye, Alyson (Cole) Evans; and her nine great-grandchildren-Logan, Mason, and Audrey Cady; Hazel and Henry Barber; and Sylvia, Naomi, Juliet, and Cecelia Frye.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George “Lindy” Crandall; her beloved daughter, Lori Ann Frye; her parents; and all nine of her siblings.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 1 at 11:00am at the Waterloo Ward, 1623 South 500 East. Viewing to be held Friday, July 31 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Larkin Mortuary 260 East South Temple.
In Loving Memory
Grandma Ruth, you are deeply loved and we will miss your laughter, stories, and hugs more than words can say. We will carry you with us in the stories we tell, the traditions we continue, and the love you passed down.
