Thomas Bowring Woodbury II “Beau”

Thomas Bowring Woodbury II “Beau”, passed peacefully, surrounded by family in St. George, Utah, at the age of 89. Beau is survived by his five children: Leslie Bangerter (Edward) of Sandy, UT, Thomas Woodbury III (Melissa) of Princeton, NJ, Todd Woodbury (Heather) of Henderson, NV, Matthew Woodbury (Jennifer) of Darien, CT and Ashley Shontz (Anthony) of Broomfield, CO. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as his sister, Wendy Cederlof. He is preceded in death by his sister, Cheri Hyde, both his parents, and his adoring wife, Kathleen "Kathy" Thompson Woodbury.

Beau was born on September 15, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Beulah "Bubbles" and Thomas Bowring "By" Woodbury. Beau spent his childhood in both Salt Lake City and Wichita, Kansas. He was a life-long learner and attended Brigham Young University where he graduated with degrees in Latin and Economics. He pursued post-graduate studies at Oxford, London School of Economics and the University of Utah, where he received his Juris Doctorate. He met Kathy in Utah, where the two married in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 14, 1965. They welcomed their five children and made their home in areas including California, Utah, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Washington and Ohio, before finally settling in St. George Utah.

Beau's career spanned many decades as a corporate attorney, serving as General Counsel at multiple companies in both the insurance and utilities industries. Beau never let the demands of his career get in the way of his commitment to being a devoted husband and father. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and lived a life of service, including three full-time missions. His first mission came as a nineteen-year-old in the Gulf States, followed by two with this spouse Kathy, where they served as Mission President for the Tacoma Washington Mission (1996-1999) and then later as the Director of the Historical Kirtland Ohio Mission (2003-2006). While Beau held many church callings through his life, including multiple stints as Bishop, he treasured his time serving as a Sealer in the St. George Temple. It was in this role that he was able to officiate the sealing of six of his grandchildren, an experience he truly treasured.

Those that knew Beau, know of his deep love for the Savior and commitment to the gospel. He loved the scriptures and dedicated himself to committing numerous powerful passages to memory. His influence on others was far reaching and impacted so many. His listening ear and valuable counsel was both genuine and thoughtful as he sought out the best in people and helped so many fulfill their potential. He was a loving husband, adoring father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a truly devoted friend. He was a passionate sports fan, the snappiest of dressers and a true gentleman.

We will miss his acts of kindness, his sense of humor and deep laugh, his storytelling, and his presence. Above all, we will miss his ability to love and lift those around him and make each of us feel special, heard and loved. He leaves behind a legacy of family and a life deeply rooted in faith. We love him profoundly and rejoice at his reunion with Kathy as they embark on their next chapter together. We would like to thank all those that have loved Beau, particularly his community in St. George Utah, where he was the recipient of so much kindness and love.

We will be celebrating Beau's life with funeral services scheduled for Friday October 2, 2026. There will be a viewing starting at 9:00am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am, both held at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Those will be followed by an internment ceremony at Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 Crestwood Road, Kaysville, Utah. All are welcome to attend.
