November 27, 1944•September 28, 2026
Thomas Lee Greenburg, age 81, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was born on November 27, 1944, in Salt Lake City to Donald Byron Greenburg and Norma Farrer Greenburg. He grew up in Salt Lake City, graduated from West High School, and went on to graduate from the University of Utah—a school he would remain passionate about throughout his life.
Tom proudly served his country in the Utah National Guard and was honorably discharged following his service.
He spent his professional career in sales, marketing, and management, where his strong work ethic, natural ability with people, sense of humor, and generosity served him well. His final professional chapter was with Hill Brothers Chemical Company, where he left a lasting legacy in more ways than one. During his time there, Tom hired each of his three sons—Jeff, Rob, and Mark—all of whom continue to work for Hill Brothers today.
Tom was a gifted athlete throughout his life. As a young man, he excelled in both football and basketball, and as he grew older, he remained committed to staying active through running and swimming. He was also a devoted Utah Utes fan. For many years, he held season tickets and loved watching the Utes compete in both football and basketball.
But the things that defined Tom most had little to do with his career or athletics. He was known for his kindness, his friendly demeanor, and his genuine interest in other people. Tom could make a friend almost anywhere he went. He enjoyed talking with people, getting to know them, laughing with them, and making them feel welcome.
Those who knew Tom also knew there were certain things that were simply part of who he was. Remarkably, throughout his life, Tom never uttered a swear word. It was a small but memorable reflection of the kind of man he was and the standards by which he quietly lived his life. His warmth, humor, kindness, and generosity left an impression on countless people.
Above everything else, Tom loved his family. Nothing was more important to him, and at the center of his life was his beloved wife, Carol. Tom and Carol shared an extraordinary 62 years of marriage together—a lifetime of love, family, faith, friendship, and memories. His devotion to Carol and to their family was one of the defining qualities of his life.
Tom’s faith was deeply important to him. He devoted many years to serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully accepted numerous callings throughout his life. Among them, he served as a Bishop, later as a transient Bishop in St. George, Utah, and served in the temple. Tom and Carol also had the opportunity to serve a mission together in Far Rockaway, New York, an experience that reflected both his faith and his lifelong desire to serve others.
Tom is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol Greenburg; his three sons, Jeff Greenburg and his wife, Bobbi; Rob Greenburg and his fiancé, Tasha; and Mark Greenburg and his wife, Susan; and his ten grandchildren, Sam Greenburg, Ryan Greenburg, Jordan Greenburg, Cameron Greenburg, Emma Greenburg, Maddie Dixon, Abby Olsen, Kaitlyn Airmet, Bailee Greenburg, and Ty Greenburg. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Norma Greenburg, and his brothers, Gary and Richard Greenburg.
Tom leaves behind a remarkable legacy—not simply in what he accomplished, but in the way he treated people and the family he loved so deeply. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a faithful servant, a loyal friend, and a man who genuinely enjoyed people and brought warmth and humor wherever he went.
His family will deeply miss his smile, his kindness, his humor, and his steady presence in their lives. The example he set through his love of family, his faith, his work ethic, and the way he cared for others will continue through the generations that follow him.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Emigration Canyon Ward, 2795 East Crestview Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108. A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
