Vera Margrethe Nielsen lived a life of extraordinary courage, faith, and love.

Vera was born in Denmark on October 13, 1934. From the beginning, she had a strong and adventurous spirit. At only 18 years old, after joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she made a decision to leave Denmark and travel by ship to the United States to be closer to the temple and begin a new chapter of her life. Her journey reflected the woman she would always be: brave, independent, hardworking, and full of faith. She often spoke fondly of her early years on a farm, she eventually achieved one of her dreams: purchasing her forever home in Millcreek, Utah, where she created a place filled with love, family, and community.

Vera’s greatest joy was her family. She raised 10 children: Marinus, Sonja, Niels, Gerald (deceased), Margrethe (deceased), Martha, Stewart, Alta, Viola, and Hazel. As a mother, she showed incredible strength and, teaching her children hard work, kindness, and independence. Her children and their families became her greatest legacy.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. Vera was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found great joy in serving others. She shared her beautiful voice through the church choir and loved singing throughout her life. Her testimony, service, and example blessed many people around her.

Vera was deeply proud of her Danish heritage and loved sharing it with others. She kept her homeland close through family traditions, favorite Danish dishes and pastries, and stories of her life in Denmark. Her favorite colors were red and white, like the Danish flag, a beautiful reflection of the country she always carried in her heart.

She expressed her love through her many talents and traditions. Vera knitted countless beautiful baby blankets that she lovingly gifted to families celebrating new little ones. Every Christmas, she shared chocolate advent calendars with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and children in her church community, spreading joy through simple acts of love.

Vera leaves behind a remarkable legacy of faith, courage, generosity, and unconditional love. She is survived by her 8 living children, 30 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, and countless friends and loved ones who were blessed to know her.

Her memory will continue through every tradition she created, every song she sang, every blanket she knitted, and every life she touched.
