In Loving Memory of Willard Ralph Dyess

January 6, 1936 – October 28, 2026

It is with deep sadness, and with hearts full of love and gratitude, that we announce the passing of Willard Ralph Dyess, who passed away peacefully on October 28, 2026, in Midvale, Utah, at the age of 90.

Born on January 6, 1936, in Carson, Mississippi, Ralph lived a life defined by kindness, hard work, laughter, and devotion to family. A true Southern gentleman, he greeted everyone with a warm smile and a friendly word. Ralph had an extraordinary gift for seeing the good in others and making those around him feel valued and appreciated.

Ralph proudly served his country in the Army National Guard from 1953 to 1957, earning the rank of Corporal before receiving an honorable discharge. His strong work ethic and craftsmanship led him to a lifelong career as a furniture builder and restoration specialist. He possessed remarkable skill and talent, and there seemed to be nothing he could not build, repair, or improve. Family and friends often turned to Ralph for help, knowing he would gladly lend both his knowledge and his hands.

For 34 wonderful years, Ralph shared a loving marriage with his beloved wife, Dottie. Together they built a life rich with adventure, friendship, and cherished memories. They loved traveling, camping, and exploring new places, creating countless unforgettable experiences together.

Ralph found great joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved animals, especially dogs, and welcomed many faithful companions into his life over the years. He enjoyed singing, playing the guitar, and sharing his wonderful sense of humor with those around him. His laughter was contagious, and his gentle spirit brought comfort wherever he went.

Perhaps Ralph's greatest joy came from his family. He adored his children and grandchildren and proudly supported their sports, church, and extracurricular activities. Known affectionately as a "Bonus Grandpa" to many, Ralph opened his heart to children and young people beyond his immediate family, offering encouragement, support, and unconditional love. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those he cared for.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Dottie Dyess; his children, Debbie Castillo, Lee (Tusa) Dyess, Mary (Robert Garnas) DeBord, Dienece (Robert) Dayton, and Susan Beets; his stepsons, Shayne (Michelle) Hudson and Kevin (Alayna) Hudson; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and his sisters, Martha Lou Lemoine and Bobbie Stiglets.

Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hattie May, brothers; Vance, Lavell, Troy and Harmon, Sisters; Christine, Agnes and Jean.

Though Ralph's presence will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught through his example will remain with all who knew him. His kindness, humility, craftsmanship, humor, and love for family leave an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.
