Susanne Malaska, 62, passed away suddenly from heart failure on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Loving sister, aunt, cousin, and dear friend, she will be forever missed.

Susanne “Susie” was born on July 17, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Jack and Etta LaRaine (Gardner) Malaska. She graduated from Granite High School in 1975 and later received a marketing/design degree from Salt Lake Community College. She worked for Lagoon Amusement Park as the Art Director and achieved several national awards for her work on the famous merry-go-round horses that she hand-painted, as well as the “Colossus the Fire Dragon” roller coaster. She then branched out on her own to start her company, Malaska Creative and Design. Susie worked in the design field for over 30 years creating marketing pieces for several large Utah businesses as well as designing scrapbook papers for The Paper Patch store. She worked for many businesses for all types of publications.

Susie had a passion for the arts and an incredible imagination to utilize when creating designs and bringing her art to life.

Her two nieces, Jennifer Malaska and Ashley (Malaska) Moss were the light of her life and she looked forward to spoiling them in any way possible. She longed to be able to see her new 8- month old grandniece, Ellie, but through the videos and photos from AZ, she was kept up to date from afar.

Susie was always known for her quick wit, her infectious laugh that could fill a room, and her kind heart and compassionate soul. Those who came to know her will never forget her and hopefully will forever remember her as a dear friend who meant only good wishes for them.

Susanne was preceded in death by her father, Jack, and her mother, Etta LaRaine Malaska. She is survived by her brother, Mike Malaska and wife, Charlene (Camp) Malaska, nieces Jennifer Malaska and Ashley (Malaska) Moss, Garrett Moss, & Ellie Moss, cousin, Alexis Christianson as well as many other cousins and relatives she loved dearly.

A memorial gathering of family and friends will take place on August 18, 2020, at 10:00 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 south), Sandy, Utah. Please email Mike or Charlene Malaska at charmalaska@gmail.com so that we can notify you of the details for the upcoming memorial.

Many thanks to some of Susie’s dearest friends, Kathy Ann Nakai, Deborah Holmes, and Carol Eastman for your continued friendship, service, support, and immense acts of kindness and care for Susie over the years. Special thanks to her cousin, Alexis Christianson, for always being there to help her in every way possible even when you were not asked to help. It never went unnoticed. Susie loved you all and anyone that would show love and friendship to her. We can’t begin to thank you enough. Thanks to all the caregivers at Carrington Court, in So. Jordan, Utah where she lived since December of 2017. Your ability to care for her and always show your kindness was appreciated by her and the family.
