Alan Walter Barnes

1934 ~ 2017

Alan passed away peacefully after a short illness. He was born in Leigh, Lancashire, Northern England on July 18, 1934 to Alfred and Mary Elizabeth Barnes. He served his National Service in the Army, counting it the second most important event in his life. His father ensured he avoided working in the mines by apprenticing him to a barber, which led to work with L'Oreal, and his own beauty salons. He married Doreen Lally, later divorced. They had one child, Dorian Lisa. He emigrated to the U. S. where he was employed in banking, eventually as Vice President of Loan Servicing at Prudential Federal Savings. As such, he met his future wife Judith Boulden, a bankruptcy trustee, in Court. They married November 6, 1981 and Alan became the law office manager of Boulden and Gillman. He made many friends in the legal and court family, was always quick to share that wicked British humor and his keen insight of people and business. He cared deeply about his close friends and family, and his "2nd Mom" Ruth, daily sharing bits of news and info that he thought might enrich their lives.

Preceded in death by his parents and beloved sister Phyllis. Survived by his wife Judith, daughter Lisa (Todd), grandchildren Iain and Lindsey, niece Jan (Russ), mother-in-law Ruth, brother-in-law Doug (Jeanine) and their children, and dear friends Jules and Julee.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Little America between 1 and 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers please contribute in his name to the Salvation Army, or make time to reach out to a loved one or friend - for time may be short.
