Margie Ruth Shaw Hamblin

1924 ~ 2020

Margie Ruth, also known as “Grandma Bear,” was born on September 23, 1924 in Murray, Utah to Curtis and Genevine (Vinnie) Shaw. She attended Murray High School with her high school sweetheart Lee Hamblin. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 25, 1944. Margie attended BYU and remained a true, blue Cougar her whole life—holding season tickets to football games. She loved her rich ancestry and spent many hours doing family history. Her efforts have blessed many lives. She was a lifelong member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She would often be found gardening, playing the piano as only she could, sewing, quilting, skiing, golfing, camping, boating and traveling the world. She spent her career working in the office of Murray High School. Her favorite place to be was outside in nature, especially in the mountains. She served in many capacities including Den Mother and Relief Society President and enjoyed serving in the Murray Care Center with Lee. More than anything, she loved to have fun with her family and friends.

Margie is survived by her children: Dennis (Sylvia) Hamblin, Julie Hamblin (Kevin) Thomason, Jeff (Janet) Hamblin, and Christine Hamblin (Neal) Francom; 24 cherished grandchildren and 26 much loved great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Margie was known as “Homerun Shaw” in high school. She has made her final homerun. She will truly be missed by all who were privileged to know her.

Due to current restrictions, only a private family service will be held.

Dear Hamblin Family,
We are so sorry to hear about your mom's passing. She raised a great family and she will be your new guardian angel along with your dad by her side. May you have peace and comfort at this time. Keep being the great examples you are to the world. She knew how to raise kind, caring kids, especially Dennis and Jeff.

May you know that Heavenly Father is glad to have her back with him and he has missed her too.

Take care and keep the faith,

Bob and Valerie Cole and family

Hamblin Family, we are so sorry to hear about Marge's passing. She was an absolute wonderful woman! I have fond memories from my childhood spending time with Lee, Marge, Melba & Joseph Mash. Marge & Melba were often my 2nd & 3rd “mom” during some of those long summers. We certainly wish we could attend the family service, but due to current restrictions, will refrain from attending. However, please know you are in our prayers.
