  • Douglas Scott Jansen, 56, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. He was born on January 26, 1964 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Stephen Douglas Jansen and Charlette McCleery Jansen. He shared 25 years of marriage with Anooshka Jansen and is survived by her and children Casey (Kellie), Zachary (Nicole), River (David), Jonathan, Genevieve, and six grandchildren. Doug is also survived by his father Stephen and sister Kim (Scott) Tingley. He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlette, grandfather Donald N. McCleery, grandmother Joyce Cook McCleery, grandfather Reinder Jansen Jr., and grandmother Nora Genevieve Goodspeed Jansen.

Ever since he was a young boy, Doug wanted to be a firefighter. He loved fire trucks and wanted to help people. Doug worked hard and was able to realize his childhood dream and became a paramedic and firefighter for the City of South Salt Lake. Later, Doug and his family moved to St. George, Utah where he proudly served as a member of the St. George Fire Department for over ten years. He loved being a member of the St. George Fire Department and serving the people of St. George in that capacity. Doug also held the position of Fire Chief of Wayne County, Utah. He excelled at being a firefighter and earned numerous professional certificates, gained extensive experience and was a highly regarded member of the fire service.

Doug poured himself into his hobbies and his passions. He never did anything half-way. He had an adventurous spirit and a fearlessness that often lead him down the path less traveled in life. Doug truly lived up to his “cowboy up,” motto and in his younger days competed as an amateur bull rider and worked as a rodeo clown. He went all out on holidays, birthday parties, and his and Fourth of July fireworks celebrations were second to none. Doug really loved fly-fishing and became an expert fly-fishing guide. Some of Doug’s other passions included music, Corvettes, and being in the warm sunshine. But most of all he loved his kids and grandkids. He loved just being around them, his kids meant the world to him.

A memorial gathering in Doug’s honor will be held Saturday, June 27, 2020 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm at Le Jardin, 1910 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.), Sandy, Utah. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm after the gathering at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
