Friday, November 7, 2014 our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed peacefully from this life, at her home, surrounded by her family. Afton was born on November 27, 1929, Thanksgiving Day, to Henry Asabell Gregory and Evelyn Hofeling Gregory in Murray, Utah. She would have been 85 on Thanksgiving Day.
Afton graduated from Murray High School in 1948. She married Dale James Hand on May 25, 1949 in Murray, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordan River LDS Temple. She worked for various companies in Salt Lake City and retired from Consolidated Freightways after 30 years of service. She was active in bowling and golfing, having hit a hole in one, and winning a trip to Washington DC in a bowling tournament.
Afton had a testimony of our Savior and was a Temple worker in the Jordan River Temple.
Afton is survived by her husband, two sons, Randy (Marti) Hand of Billings, Montana and Greg (Judy) Hand of West Valley City, Utah. Four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Brothers, Leon Gregory of Sandy and David Gregory of South Jordan, Utah. Sisters, Lois Pearson of Murray and Norma Whitlach of La Verkin, Utah. She is preceded in death by parents, brother Eugene Gregory and sisters Phyllis Ferguson and Carol Worthen.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 E. Dimple Dell Road 10600 S., Sandy, UT). The family will meet with friends at Larkins on Tuesday, November 11th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and again prior to services on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:45 AM.
