On Thursday, April 28, 2021, Carrie Joan Brewer Manning, slipped the bonds of mortality, to be reunited with her beloved husband, Kent, along with family and friends who were waiting to welcome her to the Spirit World; there to rest from the cares and labors of this life.
She was born in Morgan, Utah on September 28, 1933, to Ruth Eddington Brewer and Ora Abraham "George" Brewer. She had a wonderful childhood shared with her loving sister Barbara Jeanette Busch and “dozens of cousins” with whom she remained close her entire life. She graduated from East High School before attending Brigham Young University. While at BYU, she met and fell in love with her husband Kent W. Manning of Hooper, Utah. They were happily married for 62 years.
Throughout her life, she loved the outdoors. As a child, she hiked the hills of Morgan from morning to night and knew them like the back of her hand. As an adult, she spent many memorable days camping and hiking with immediate and extended family. She collected mementoes and natural artifacts from wherever she went—a fun hobby she inherited from her father.
Joan adored children. This love turned into a fulfilling career as an elementary school secretary in the Jordan School District. She served in many callings in the church; but, of course, her favorite was that of Primary Chorister. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them as often as possible, especially in her later years when she stayed close to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joan always chose to focus on the good in everyone. She often said her life was a labor of love; and, if you met her, you instantly felt loved by her. She always went out of her way if she thought there was a way to make someone happy.
She is survived by her two sons Jeff (Megumi) and Brent Manning and three daughters Julie Morrow (Bob), Kari Manning and Jan Jorgenson (Rob). Grandchildren: Dayne Shurtleff, Krista Bebe, Tahoe, Diego, Logan and Roman Jorgenson. Great-grandchildren Bailee and Jaicen Conway and Gabe Bebe.
She was a kind, loving, gentle soul, and the light and love she shared will be greatly missed!
Memorial services will include a viewing service at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary at 1950 East Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 South) on Friday, May 7th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with a grave-side service the following day at the City Cemetery in Hooper, Utah, 5301 South 6300 West, on Saturday, May 8th at 11:00 AM.
