David Mack Horne Jr., 67, passed away September 27, 2021, in Salt Lake City from heart failure.

Dave was born to David M. Horne and Jeanne Morris Horne on March 29, 1954, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the oldest of seven children. Dave grew up and attended schools in Salt Lake City.

Dave was a master commercial electrician. He specialized in heavy industrial equipment. The more complicated the job the better, he applied his head as well as his hands in many of his favorite jobs. Almost always, his customers were also his friends. One of his favorite jobs was installing the electrical equipment for the snowmaking machines at Alta ski resort.

He had a vast knowledge about multiple interests and hobbies. Including metallurgy, bee keeping, flying, sawmills, skiing, snowmobiling, Lake Powell, cooking, and practical jokes. He loved to read and learn about many different subjects, and kept studying until he understood them, and could recall information years later. He had an amazing memory.

Dave loved Lambs canyon, where his first learned to drive the “pink jeep”. Throughout his life he spent many enjoyable days at the peaceful surroundings of the family cabin.

Dave made lifelong friends wherever he went. He coined many unique and original nicknames. The family would like to thank all of his friends that treated him like family the last few years.

He is loved and will be greatly missed.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and brother Brian and is survived by three brothers and two sisters: Steven M. (Kathy) Horne, Jonathan N. (Patty) Horne, James M. (Karen) Horne, Suzanne J. Horne, and Catherine L. (Todd) Klein.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Larkin Mortuary 260 E S Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84111.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.

My condolences to Dave's family and his loved ones. Dave was always Uncle Dave to me. Uncle Dave, taught me how to drive stick shift in his truck, and if you knew how tall Uncle Dave was, you would also be able to assume that I could barely see over the steering wheel while holding down the clutch and gas at the same time. My Dad and I used to go every weekend with Uncle Dave up to lambs canyon. I learned how to chop wood, build the perfect fire, and stir the pit with an old shovel. We would jam out to vinyls and howl at the moon, and stars. I will never forget how much fun the three of us always had out side in the woods, and even our special trips "mining" for gold. We never found that gold, but maybe I'll be able to live on his legacy and find us some! One time we made a concert pact, I cleaned the cabin, he bought my concert ticket! It was awesome! Uncle Dave was a legend, and I hope his stories will forever carry on.

Sincerely,
little Nero, Kate

I met Dave at T&R Four Wheel Drive over forty years ago and we became good friends over that time period.
Dave and I spent a lot of time up at the cabin in Lambs Canyon cutting and splitting firewood and generally cleaning up dead fallen trees off of the property. We also drank a lot of beer in our quest to argue through what we perceived were solvable problems of the world. He had a great sense of humor and was willing to laugh at you as well as laugh at himself . He liked picking up rocks that he thought looked promising for silver assay as he was always looking for the Horne Silver Mine. I moved to Reno in 2017 and only talked to Dave on the phone 3 or 4 times per year the last time being in early September 0f 2021. Thank fully a friend of mine forwarded his obituary to me . I will miss Dave .

Jonathon give me a call at your convenience.

I have known Dave for many years. We would team up on electrical projects that he would procure. He was always continuing to educate himself in the trade along with other ventures. He is a good man and I’m sure will be missed by many such as my uncle Bruce Sieverts, he was really shook up to here of Dave’s passing. I passed Dave downtown about a day or two before he left wish ida chased him down now.
