Our beloved son, brother, and uncle passed away at home at the age of 49 on Feb. 9, 2021, of complications from metastatic cancer.

David was born Nov. 10, 1971, in Salt Lake City, to Marjorie Anne (Olson) and Gene Allen Hummel. He was the most delightful and positive person. His outlook on life was bright and he was kind and friendly to all he met. Though he had an intellectual disability, through a combination of mainstream schooling and special education he graduated with his class at West Jordan High School in 1989. He did some post-high school life skills training at South Valley School, which facilitated his first part-time employment opportunities. After working at several other places, David was hired by a McDonald's franchise near his home in Sandy in the early 1990s and worked there in a part-time capacity for more than 25 years.

David was diagnosed with late-stage cancer in August of 2020 and faced treatment with his trademark positive attitude and friendly demeanor. We are grateful for the kindness and humanity he was shown by Utah Cancer Specialists and Quality Home Health and Hospice.

He is survived by his amazing father, who was his companion and relentless advocate throughout his life, his sister Debbie, her husband Ezra Thomas Jones, and his nieces Willa and Lucille Jones. He was preceded in death by his mother.

David had many interests but most recently loved drawing and watching NASCAR races. We hope William Byron in the #24 car has a great season in David's honor.

Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, February 25, 202, 1:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah.
