A lovely lady slipped the bonds of an almost-100-year-old body on January 12th – her mother’s birthday – and followed the angels to a heavenly celebration.
Florence Elizabeth MacEwen (known to most as “Liz”) was born on March 1st, 1922. She was raised and educated in Toronto, Canada and Edinburgh, Scotland, and served in the rank of Head WRN (Wren) in the Women’s Royal Naval Service during WWII. A bookkeeper and accounts manager by trade, she met her future husband Arthur Donald while working at Imperial Varnish upon returning to Toronto after her service. The two relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1950 and later wed at the First Presbyterian Church on May 5, 1951.
The family moved to Heber City, Utah in 1963, where they continued to raise two children. Liz was active in ladies’ groups, crocheted afghans, painted porcelain figurines, and made amazing jam, amongst her many interests. She enjoyed working at the Wasatch County Hospital for many years. Liz loved flowers and sunshine, had beautiful gardens, and was a marvelous cook.
After returning to Salt Lake City in 1977, she volunteered at LDS Hospital for a number of years and served as secretary in the Volunteer Services office.
She adored her three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her family will love, appreciate, and miss her always. “’Til we meet again…”

Elizabeth is survived by her children Ciona Anne and Scott Roy (Melodee); grandchildren Ashlee Smith (Jason), Ian MacEwen, and Caitlin Vanchiere (Bryce); great-grandchildren Aiden and Leo Smith, and Haze, Indy, and Crew Vanchiere; and sister D. Joyce Roth.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Hendry and Florence Mary Davies; brother Robert Joseph Hendry; and great-grandson Coen Smith.

A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, March 4, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM at The Chateau at Le Jardin (1910 Dimple Dell Rd, Sandy, UT 84092).

Dearest Ciona,
I'm so saddened about the passing of your sweet Mother. I have been so fortunate to have met you volunteering and spending time with both of you on many occasion's. I'm so thankful to have seen her just one week before she passed and she was so worried that I needed a sandwich because I had just got off work. In fact, every time that I have been to your home, both of you have treated me like royalty. I would just sit and watch, amazed at the care and concern you showed your Mother. She couldn't have asked for a better daughter than you Ciona. Please know that my prayers and thoughts are with you Ciona.

Both you and your Mother have been a gift to my life.
