  • THE BEST MOM A KID COULD HOPE FOR passed away at age 83 on July 8, 2021, surrounded with the love of her children and grandchildren.
She was born in Montana and raised her 7 children in Utah, inspiring them all to grow up to be successful adults. She often worked two jobs to provide for us yet still found time to be there for each. She was a respected business owner, an amazing cook, (food was her love language) and very talented at crafts. Mom loved to read (she read every Louis L’Amour book) or playing solitaire with a deck of cards at the kitchen table. She had a knack for finding a good deal, especially at yard sales and was eager to share her finds. She looked forward to the family reunions in Montana each year, her family was her world and we all felt her love and attention. Not a day went by that you couldn’t call her and speak to her about anything, everything or nothing. She made a lot of friends over the years, including while working at Roberts Arts and Crafts for 17 years. She was very proud of 2 of her sons’ service in the military and was able to be of service to other veterans as a member of American Legion unit 71 Auxiliary where she loved bingo night and meatloaf on Wednesdays. She organized bake sales that were so popular that members would give her their special orders so as not to miss out on her banana or pumpkin bread! We all loved getting something she baked or canned for birthdays or holidays.
She made everyone around her feel special and glad they knew her. She gave great hugs. We are so proud to have had her as our Mother and will remember her always …never to be forgotten.
Preceded in death by her oldest son Merlon Alcorn, grandson Jared Alcorn, parents Annabelle and Bill and brothers Terry and David Schend.
Survived by her sister Wilma Serns, and by her kids: Wendell Alcorn, Barbara (Brad) Larson, Connie (Rick) Kiser, Bill Alcorn, Sherrie (Bobby) Rose and Bryan (Corin) Alcorn, 11 grand kids, 14 great grandkids and 2 great-great grandkids. You taught us well and are much loved!
Funeral services will be held Friday July 30, from 12 to 2 pm, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, in the Chateau, 1910 E. 10600 S. in Sandy. The family will host a visitation from 5-6 p.m. that evening at The American Legion Post 71, 3419 S. West Temple.

    Love you, stepmom Kathryn.
I loved coming to your home. You always treated us with kindness. I loved your smart bird who would come to my sister and I, with a simple wave of our finger. Thank you for helping me with genealogy questions. I will forever remember you a smart, strong, independent woman who endure much but continued to push forward.
