  • Kelli Lee Kilgrow came into the world Christmas morning 49 years ago and returned into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on Valentine’s Day. The day dedicated to love was a fitting day because she was so loved.

She loved her family. She always greeted them with a smile and she was quick with a hug. Kelli identified each of her siblings as “her favorite” and that is just how they all felt. Kelli loved her friends. Her apartment was the “hangout” place. Friends gathered there frequently. The wonderful, caring staff at her supervised apartment enabled her to live as independently as possible.

Kelli was an avid University of Utah and Utah Jazz fan. While she frequently watched the games on TV, one of her biggest thrills was going to the games. She graduated from Granite High School, the Jones Center, and the seminary program. Kelli loved to watch movies especially High School Musical and Grease. She must have watched both of them at least 100 times.

There have been many organizations that have provided Kelli with a variety of experiences that have helped her learn how to get along in the world. Some of them are Camp K, Hartvigson, Columbus and Jordan Valley Supported Employment. Camp K provided a variety of activities such as going to Jazz games, going bowling, hosting movie nights, and dances. Kelli even got to ride in a helicopter. Hartvigson sponsored a team for the Special Olympics. They also put on plays, taught jewelry making classes, swimming classes and held dances. Columbus is the organization that helped with housing. Jordan Valley Supported Employment provided her with several job opportunities through the years such as a custodian at the University of Utah, a bagger at Albertsons and a laundry assistant at a care facility.

Like most young adults, she was tired of being bossed around by her mother and so at age 24 she moved out of her childhood home and into the adult world. She has had a “normal” life. She has gone to school, lived in an apartment with roommates, and has held multiple jobs. She even rode public transportation to get to and from work. She has been able to participate in many activities over the years. If you were to ask her if her life has been a happy one, she would answer, “OH YEH!

She came here to teach us all and to bless us. And that she has done.

Kelli is survived by her mother, Carolyn Kilgrow, siblings, Bret [Kathy] Kilgrow, Lisa Winston, Jackie [Richard] Matthews, Suzette [Chris] Parkinson and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her stepmom, Kathy Kilgrow.

She was preceded in death by twin sisters, Jenny and Heather; father, Jack Kilgrow, and brother-in-law, Sam Winston.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19th at 11:00 am at the Kearns South Stake Center located at 5905 South 4000 West. A viewing will be held from 10:00-10:45 prior to the service. Interment will be at 2:30 pm at the Larkin Sunset Gardens located at 1950 East Dimple Dell Road [10600 South].

I have been Kelli’s support coordinator for the last 14 years and I can’t remember a time when I went to her apartment that she didn’t give me a hug and tell me I was her favorite coordinator. She was always a joy to be around and she will be greatly missed by everyone. The last time I saw her she may have been a little confused, but she had a smile on her face and that is how I will always remember her. My thought and prayers are with your family at this difficult time .
