Kent Eves Hatfield

1934 ~ 2021

Obituary Photo for Kent Eves Hatfield < >

Kent Eves Hatfield passed through the veil into the warm embrace of parents, friends, and family on January 9, 2021. Kent was a kind, friendly, loving, and generous man, who loved his wife and family, and had a strong and sustained faith in his Savior Jesus Christ. He was born in Springville, Utah, February 3, 1934, to Theadora Eves and Harry Wilson Hatfield. Growing up in Springville and Provo, Kent graduated from Springville High School, where he helped lead his team to the state basketball championship his senior year.

Kent attended the University of Utah on a basketball scholarship, and later attended and graduated from BYU with a degree in chemical engineering. While attending BYU, Kent was married and sealed to his high school sweetheart Vera Renee Hatch in the Manti Utah Temple.

Kent and Renee lived, worked, and raised their family of 6 children across the United States, in Idaho, Texas, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, California, and finally back in Utah.

Kent had a personality that was larger than life and at 6’-8” tall he drew attention everywhere he went. He developed many hobbies and interests and loved to travel. Kent was an avid gardener and raised orchids at home. He enjoyed photography, golf, watching sports, especially his beloved Utah Utes, and learning new things.

After years of working as a corporate engineer, Kent started his own engineering company based in Salt Lake City. He loved to develop, design, and build. Memorable projects took him to Taiwan, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates.

Kent is survived by his wife and 6 children: Stephanie (Matt) Halander, Kris (Jacki), Chaconne (John) Badger, Theadora, John (Michelle), Howard (Sherri), and 9 grandchildren. The family is grateful to our sister Thea for the unselfish care she has given our father over the past several years to allow him to remain in his home with Renee.

Guestbook/Condolences

We have known and loved Kent for many years, along with Renee and the family. He was truly a gentle, loving, accomplished giant of a man. Don and Kent were born on the same day, and celebrated their 40th birthday together. Nice warm obituary from the family.

Kent was an amazing guy and fun to be around. He was well-read, well-traveled and was familiar with any topic you might want to discuss. We loved seeing the early photos of Kent. They gave us a glimpse of his life before we knew him, which has been 43 years now! Our love and sympathy to Renee and the entire Hatfield family. We'll miss Kent!

We met Kent and Renee in Corpus Christi, Texas and it about broke my heart when they were transferred to Georgia. It was Kent whose friendship and Gospel mentoring that resulted in my husband, Ron's being baptized and started on a faithful steward ship of Gospel service.
It's so hard to lose a loved one even though we know the separation is only temporary..
I know the Lord is comforting you and sending
His peace to lighten your burden.

We have known Kent and his family for many years, living in the same ward and neighborhood. I appreciated his interesting searching questions about the gospel and life in general. I was also fortunate to know the family in the capacity of the pediatrician to their son John. They are a wonderful family, and Kent has been missed due to his health problems the past while. We love you, Hatfield family, and express our condolences on Kent's passing.
