  • Larry Arthur Hewitt passed away after his long battle with cancer.

Larry was a kind husband, father, and son who was devoted to his family. He was born in Ogden, Utah on February 25th, 1944, and passed away surrounded by family in South Jordan, Utah on June 9th, 2021. Larry was 77 years old and was preceded in death by his mother Ardis Butt, his father Loyd Arthur Hewitt, and his brother Ardin Hewitt.

Larry and his wife Sherren met in 1966 while in college at the University of Utah and they married in 1968. Larry received his degree in physics in 1969. They had three children; LeeAnn, Loreen, and Shirleen. In 1972, Larry and his family moved to California from Utah where they lived for 35 years before returning to Utah in 2007. He worked for Fortune 500 companies in Silicon Valley as an electronic engineer before starting his own company, Advanced PCB Engineering and continued his business after moving back to Utah.

Larry thoroughly enjoyed flying his radio-controlled airplanes and using flight simulators. He very much enjoyed his career and his inventions as an electronic engineer. He had an intellectual curiosity that inspired many people and took great joy in learning and teaching. Larry was called to many church positions and served the Lord and his church dutifully and faithfully.

Larry had a serious love of lemon meringue pie, and an affinity for James Bond and Indiana Jones movies. You could pick him out of a crowd because he was always wearing his signature Indiana Jones hat. Without fail, he protected his family by making sure all the doors were locked at night even as his health deteriorated. He loved making good and bad jokes alike in hopes of getting someone to laugh. He loved puns, good, bad or ugly and shared the ones he came across in text messages to anyone who would read them.

When he wasn’t enjoying time with his family or friends, Larry would be working in his “Inner Sanctum” where he did the majority of his engineering design work. One of his achievements as an engineer was patenting a “Socket-Less Test Board and Clamp for Electrical Testing of Integrated Circuits”.

Larry is survived by his loving and patient wife, Sherren Hewitt, his brother Brian Loyd Hewitt, his daughters LeeAnn and her husband Oscar Racz, Loreen Hewitt, and Shirleen Hewitt-Larson, as well as his four grandchildren, Sarah Hewitt, Erika Larson, Zoe Racz, and Mia Racz.
