Maria Del Carmen Figueroa De Salas

El 21 de septiembre de 2020, con el corazón más pesado anunciamos el fallecimiento de María Del Carmen Figueroa de Salas, una maravillosa esposa, madre, hija, , abuela, hermana, tía y amiga que alguien podría haber soñado.

Ella partió pacíficamente, rodeada por toda su familia en su hermosa casa en Taylorsville, UT después de una larga y dura batalla contra el cáncer.

Nació en Junín, Perú, de padres maravillosos: Samuel Figueroa y Aida Mercado. Después de conocer a su mejor amigo y amor de su vida Gustavo Salas durante la universidad, se casaron en Lima, Perú en abril de 1981. Escapando del terrorismo en su Perú natal, se mudaron a los Estados Unidos en 1998 para tratar de proporcionar una vida mejor a sus dos hijas pequeñas. Crear una vida mejor para su familia en este país fue un sueño de toda su vida que con mucho trabajo duro, ella fue capaz de lograr con éxito.

María Del Carmen siempre fue la luz de cualquier habitación en la que entró. Ella tenía una actitud muy positiva y edificante. Imposible nunca fue parte de su vocabulario, ya que siempre conquistaba cualquier trabajo que pusieron delante de ella. Fue miembro de La Iglesia de los Santos de los Últimos Días de Jesucristo, donde entre todos sus diferentes llamamientos, desarrolló predominantemente el amor por la música y las habilidades de dirección del coro. Sus actuaciones de coro fueron el deleite de cada actividad en la que fue llamada a participar.

Todos los que la conocen pueden estar de acuerdo en que su llamado principal en la vida era ser madre y abuela. Desde el momento en que se convirtió en madre y durante toda su vida, se aseguró de convertirse en la mejor amiga de sus dos hijas. A través de sus actos de servicio, acciones y sus reacciones a los desafíos, les enseñó cómo amarse unos a otros, y a amar a otros y que la familia siempre es lo primero.

La mayoría de personas desconocían que María siempre tuvo algún tipo de dolor físico. A pesar de todos sus problemas de salud, ella era una persona muy activa y energética. Le encantaba ir de caminata en las hermosas montañas, especialmente con sus seres queridos. Al llegar a la cima de cada montaña, se podía ver su semblante alegrarse y su espíritu se levantaba. Ella disfrutaba de cada respiro "fresco" en cada cima de la montaña. María Del Carmen solía decir: "el aire puro alimenta mi alma y cura mis dolencias." Sin embargo, la principal actividad física que amaba y adoraba era la Zumba. Siempre podías encontrarla en la primera fila de las clases de su hija Shirley; ella siempre estaba saltando más alto y con más entusiasmo que todos los demás en clase. María Del Carmen creó una hermosa red social de Zumba a su alrededor. Sus compañeros de entrenamiento se convirtieron en sus amigos más cercanos y apoyo durante sus últimos días en esta tierra.

A María Del Carmen le sobreviven su esposo Gustavo Salas, sus hijas y cónyuges Shirley y Justin McFarlane, Stephanie y Chris Kephart, sus nietos Elias, Dante, Chris, Joshua, un niño más hermoso en camino, su madre Aida Mercado, hermanas y cónyuges Ingrid y Christoph Lawatsch, Marisol Figueroa y Edgar Reyna, y Patricia y Michael Pitts; y su sobrino Brandon Pitts y su sobrina Marife Reyna.

On September 21, 2020, with the heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of Maria Del Carmen Figueroa de Salas, a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend anyone could have ever dreamt of having.

She left us peacefully, surrounded by her whole family in her beautiful home in Taylorsville, UT after a long hard fought battle with cancer.
She was born in Junin, Peru, to wonderful parents: late Samuel Figueroa and Aida Mercado. After meeting her best friend and love of his life Gustavo Salas during college, they married in Lima, Peru on April, 1981. Escaping terrorism in their natal Peru, they moved to the United States in 1998 to try to provide a better life to her two young daughters. Creating a better life for her family in this country was a lifelong dream of hers that with a lot of hard work, she was able to successfully accomplish.

Maria Del Carmen was always the light of any room she came in. She had a very positive and uplifting attitude. Impossible was never a part of her vocabulary as she always seem to conquer any task she was put in front of. She was a member of The Church of Latter-day Saints of Jesus Christ, where among all of her different callings, she predominantly developed the love for music and choir directing abilities. Her choir performances were the delight of each activity where she was called to participate.

Everyone who knows her can agree that her main calling in life was to be a mother and grandmother. From the moment she became a mom and throughout her whole life, she made sure to become her two daughters best friend. Through her acts of service, actions and her reactions to challenges, she taught them how to love one another, each other and that family always comes first.

Unbeknownst to most, Maria Del Carmen was always in some sort of physical pain. In spite of all of her health challenges, she was a very active and energetic person. She loved hiking in the beautiful mountains, especially with her loved ones. Reaching each mountain top, you could see her countenance brighten up and her spirits lift up. She enjoyed every "fresh" breath on each mountain top. Maria Del Carmen said, "it fed her soul and cured her ailments." However, the main physical activity she loved and adored was Zumba. You could always find her in the first row of her daughter Shirley's classes; she was always jumping higher and more enthusiastically than everyone else in class. Maria created a beautiful Zumba network around her. Her fellow workout partners became her closest friends and support during her last days on this earth.

Maria Del Carmen is survived by her husband Gustavo Salas, her daughters and spouses Shirley and Justin McFarlane, Stephanie and Chris Kephart, her grand boys Elias, Dante, Chris, Joshua, one more beautiful boy on his way, her Mother Aida Mercado, sisters and spouses Ingrid and Christoph Lawatsch, Marisol Figueroa and Edgar Reyna, and Patricia and Michael Pitts; and her nephew Brandon Pitts and niece Marife Reyna.

Funeral Services will begin at Noon at the Union Park 9th Branch, 8060 South 615 East in Sandy. A viewing will be held at the church prior to the services beginning at 10AM. Interment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah.
