Marlaine Bean Peterson was born, 30 November 1938, in Rupert, Idaho, to Raymond Augustus Bean and Delma Lucile Garner Bean. She passed away at home in Herriman on May 7, 2021. Marlaine was the oldest of eight children and spent her childhood working on the family farm, riding horses, and helping her parents care for her younger siblings. She attended school in Rupert, Idaho, and then in Burley, Idaho where she graduated with the Burley High Class of ’57.

Marlaine married Allan Peterson in the Summer of 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple after he returned from his mission in Texas, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They had four children, Lynn Peterson, DeAnn Peterson Smith, Darin Peterson, and CrisAnn Peterson.

Marlaine had a love of music and studied Piano and Organ for many years, then taught Piano and Organ for about 45 years. She shared her musical talents with others as she served in many positions in the church, including Ward and Stake Organist, Ward Choir Director, and Ward Choir accompanist. She also served in the Primary and Relief Society organizations and as a Visiting Teacher.

Marlaine and Allan lived in many places throughout their marriage, including Idaho, Utah, and California, before retiring in Herriman, Utah. They loved to travel the world, including touring and cruising in Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, The Caribbean, Costa Rica, Peru, Africa, Hawaii, and the Northeast Coast of the United States and Canada. They also traveled through most of the Western United States, visiting many National Parks and Monuments.

Marlaine was known as a very kind, caring, and generous person. She was always focused on others and loved to serve her family and friends. Her children have fond memories of her always being there to send them off to school and welcome them home when they returned. She made sure that her family knew that she loved them through letters, cards, phone calls, hugs, and kisses.

During her final days, Marlaine would often be heard bearing her testimony of the truthfulness of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, as well as expressing her love of her Heavenly Father and of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Marlaine was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Delma Bean, a brother, Daryl Bean, a sister, Lila Bean Church, and a grandson, Joshua Smith. Marlaine is survived by her husband, Allan Peterson, her four children, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Greetings Peterson family - my daughter Lindsey googled Marlaine's name. She was thinking about her favorite piano teacher I guess and we learned of sweet Marlaine's passing. Just wish to send you hugs and say how much we enjoyed Marlaine. She was a lovely woman and contributed so much to Redondo Ward while living in Torrance. She was also a terrific bishop's wife!

Thinking of you all, Jill Adams and family
