Michelle Sowards passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a brave four-year battle from health complications sustained in a pedestrian/auto accident.
Michelle was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to David and Shari-Lee B. Sowards. She was a delightful daughter who loved horseback riding, swimming and family celebrations. Michelle was a graduate of Highland High School in Salt Lake City.
Michelle's caring nature led her to volunteer for various local nonprofit organizations over the years including Utah Food Bank and University of Utah Museum of Fine Arts, but her real passion was gardening in the green house at Red Butte Garden.
Michelle is survived by her parents, sister Alison, brother-in-law Greg, and nephews Zachary and Thomas. The family wishes to thank Michelle’s many caregivers and healthcare staff for the compassion they showed her over the past four years. A special thanks to the staff of Avalon Valley Rehabilitation and Bristol Hospice.
There will be no funeral service, but a celebration of life will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to the Red Butte Garden or other charity of your choice.
Michelle was a rare and very beautiful soul! I’m saddened to learn of her passing. I always remember seeing her downtown at various times waiting for her bus. I also remember her smile which was like a light that was truly wonderful to see! She was an Angel.
