Barney Scott Alvey

1936 ~ 2020

After a courageous battle with liver cancer, Barney Alvey was called home to heaven on the morning of April 5, 2020 in West Jordan, Utah.  Barney was born on June 7, 1936 in Escalante, Utah to Scytha Solena and C. Howard Alvey.  He left this earthly life with his eternal wife and sweetheart Shirley at his side. Barney and Shirley were married on March 16, 1955 in Salt Lake City Utah.  The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on November 1, 1974. Barney was very dedicated to the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and set a great example to his children and grandchildren.

He dedicated his life to the well-being and enjoyment of his family.  He loved to travel to his second home in Hurricane, Utah and spent many of his winter months in the warmth of southern Utah.  He enjoyed spending time with friends and family at the Alvey cabin in which he built alongside his sons, daughter and grandkids.

He was well known in the auto body repair business and had many friends and associates that he kept close to his heart.  He also worked in the home building industry with his brothers.  He made many long-time close friendships which included his childhood friends and enjoyed fishing and meeting them on a weekly basis for tea.

He loved the Western movie classics and spent his last years watching his favorite shows such as Wagon Train, Gunsmoke, The Big Valley and many more.  This was probably due to his years growing up in Escalante and rural Salt Lake County area.

Preceded in death by his parents C. Howard and Scythia Solena Alvey; sister-in-laws Sharon Alvey, Kay Alvey; and brother-in-law Wayne Brierly.

Barney leaves behind his wonderful wife Shirley; four children Jody (Dale) Leikam, Scott (Janene) Alvey, Brent (Lisa) Alvey, Daniel Alvey; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  Also survived by his siblings Leva Brierly, Chuck (Carla) Alvey, Gay (Ivan) Hill, Jim (Judy) Alvey, Vaughn Alvey and Mike (LexAnne Alvey).

A special thanks to Hospice for their loving service in the last few weeks.

Due to the current Covid-19 regulations, a private immediate family graveside services will be held. Barney will be laid to rest at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd., Sandy.
