Rachel A. Backman, 86, passed away on November 22, 2021. She was born March 11, 1935, in Walpole, New Hampshire to Grace E. Bourbeau and William Wallace Warn. She graduated from Wilmington High School (Massachusetts) class of `53. She participated in choir, basketball, and softball. She married her high school sweetheart, Knute Backman on July 10, 1954. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple on July 10, 1969, their 15th wedding anniversary.

After having four fabulous children, Rachel returned to school where she received degrees in Education and Nursing. She would go on to work for 19 years at St. Joseph's Hospital in Nashua. New Hampshire.

When she and Knute retired, they moved West to be close to their children and grandchildren.

Rachel loved reading, music, traveling, sports especially Notre Dame football, the Boston Red Sox, and New England Patriots. She was a New England girl, so she loved Autumn and all its splendor. Her real passion was genealogy. She devoted 52 years of her life searching and doing temple work for family members. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in numerous callings with her favorite being Relief Society instructor.

Rachel is survived by her four children: Kim (Charles) Snively, LaBarge, Wy.; Eric (Julie) Backman, Diamondville, Wy.; Karen (Mike) Wiemer, Layton, UT; Kyle (Lucinda) Backman, Murray, UT; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Knute, and grandson, Adam Backman.

The family would like to express appreciation to the staff at Life Care Center of Bountiful for their care of Rachel during her final 4 months and to Atlas HomeCare and Hospice for tender care at the end.

A viewing will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021, at 10:00. A private family service will be followed at 11:00. Interment will be in the Larkin Sunset Garden Cemetery.

    Kim, Eric, Karen.& Kyle,
Our deepest and heartfelt sympathies and condolences to you and your families on the passing of your mother Rachel. I will always remember your mom’s great laugh and sense of humor! Mom’s are especially hard to say goodbye too even when we know it’s time for them to move on to the other side. We are blessed to have the knowledge of the Gospel and know that we will be reunited with our loved ones again. God Bless you in your time of mourning and remembrance of Rachel. All our love, David, Ginger & Tracy

I ditto my brother Tracy's condolences and want to add that my best memories of your mom are when she was our Beehive advisor. We laughed and cried together and I was deeply moved by her lessons. I know she will be missed greatly.
    Love & Hugs,
