Robert Vern Cowan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, was born on March 2, 1939, in Winnemucca, Nevada, to Thayne Alexander Cowan and Mary Elizabeth Fowers Cowan.

Robert graduated from Humboldt High in Winnemucca, NV. He then continued his education at Stevens-Henager College in Salt Lake City, UT where he graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting and Finance. He then went on to serve in the West Spanish American Mission in California and Arizona for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When finished serving the Lord, he enrolled in college at BYU where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance. Robert worked as a banker for over 30 years and he loved what he did.

While Robert was attending school at BYU, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Udy. They fell in love, dated and were married on May 27, 1967 in the Manti, Utah Temple. They created a beautiful family with six children. They were married 55 years and were always best friends.

Robert loved to travel with his wife and family. They went on many adventures together. He has always been a huge rockhound. He loved to travel to rock shows and go out rockhounding himself. It was always a great joy to see what he found. He also loved being outside gardening. He always had the most beautiful yard around. Above all, the thing he loved the most were his grandchildren. He lived for his grandchildren and they brought him the most joy in life. He was a best friend to all of them, and they will deeply miss him.

Robert is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children, Brian (Elizabeth) Cowan, Marianne (Todd) Fereday, Gregory Cowan, David (Shasta) Cowan, Suzanne Edmonds (Troy Poulson), and Julie Thurman (Chad Guevara); by his 12 grandchildren, Nicole, Ashley, Kevin, Christopher, Brandon, Allyson, Derrick, Abigail, Katie, Annabella, Sophia, and Lilliana; and his sister, Marilyn Ostler. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Elaine Westmoreland, and his beloved Aunt Ruth Jensen.
