  • Steve Sheng Lee (李勝和), beloved husband, father, grandfather (阿公) and friend unexpectedly passed away on April 13, 2021 at the age of 72.

He was born November 2, 1948 as the third of five children to Leon and Liu Lee in PuZi, Taiwan. After graduating from Kaohsiung Medical College’s School of Pharmacy in 1972, Steve immigrated to the United States to continue his education and pursue the American dream. He landed in Pittsburgh, PA, where he earned his MS from the School of Pharmacy at Duquesne University, met Rosa M. Chen, his wife of over 40 years, and welcomed two children, Peter and Katherine, into the world.

Steve lived a fulfilling and zestful life. With a deep passion for the intersection of Eastern and Western medicine, he built a decades-long career in herbal supplements and nutraceutical product development, which brought him and his family to Utah in 1988. His interests extended beyond; however, Steve loved reading and immersing himself in a variety of topics, from science to technology, from politics to culture.

To all who knew him, Steve lived life as an adventure, bringing great energy and curiosity to meet the world and people around him, connecting through stories and humor. An avid traveller, he visited over 25 countries and managed to survive many fearless street food decisions, despite his wife Rosa's warnings. In the days prior to his passing, he was researching and planning his post-pandemic travels to Japan and talking about a trek to Central America. He was always on the go, never happier than when staying active. In retirement, he treated it like his job. On any given day of the week you could find him at the pool, on the pickleball court, at the ping-pong table, or on a long walk around town.

Off duty, Steve was a friend to all. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with family and cultivated an extensive network of friends wherever he went. He always put the needs of others before the needs of himself, and especially worked hard to make sure his wife and children had the support and resources to pursue their aspirations. Steve actively contributed and volunteered his time in the Taiwanese community.

Steve is survived and loved by his wife, Rosa; two children, Peter (Michelle) and Katherine (Duncan); granddaughter, Emiko; and siblings Victor, Ling-Yu, and Ling-Hwa. He will be dearly missed and will always be in our hearts, minds, and share a part of our every day.
