  • Verla was born on July 4th, 1931 among fireworks to James & LaRue Reid. She passed away at age 89, peacefully with all her children at her side February 7, 2021.

    She was married to her eternal sweetheart, Richard Gary Rowland for 57 years, they have 7 children, 30 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren.

    She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served & enjoyed many callings throughout her life. She was a fantastic seamstress, made almost all her children’s clothes, including coats, jeans, jackets, amazing costumes, and wedding dresses, tipi’s, blankets, etc. She ran a successful drapery business, and was a great cook, famous for her Sunday chocolate cake, that untold numbers of people enjoyed. She was a wonderful homemaker in every way, happily making all her family’s lives better. Together they planned & built a log cabin from scratch, which she designed & decorated to magazine quality. She was a beautiful person, inside & out, an example of style & elegance. She was always optimistic, kind & loving to all.

    Survived by six children, Julie Andrus (Kirk), Peggy Rawlins (Don), Matt Rowland (Francene), Paul Rowland (Holly), Rob Rowland (Ann), Jonathan Rowland (Jodi). Preceded in passing by husband Richard, & daughter, Sally.

    Viewing at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 So.), Sandy, Friday Feb. 12 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

    Funeral Saturday Feb. 13 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Wasatch 4th Ward, 8170 S. Shorthills Drive, Cottonwood Heights, at 11:00am, with no viewing prior to the services at the church

    I have the very best memory’s of my entire childhood because of your parents, Aunt Verla was such a kind and loving person, I am so sorry for your loss.
