Joanne Rene Lowe, 63, passed away on January 29, 2020 after courageously battling cancer for over two years.Always full of gratitude for the little things, she was an example of charity, grace, class, hope, and cheer. Her soul was filled with divine nature, and her life was a testimony to virtue and integrity.
Joanne was born in Oakland, California on January 28, 1957 and was the first child born to Robert Frederick Lowe and Svea E Pearson. From the day she was born, an easy, beautiful smile could be seen on her face. She was soon joined by three younger brothers and quickly learned how to make her brothers bend to her will.
She grew up in Oakland and Piedmont, graduating from Piedmont High School in1975.Growing up, her life was filled with family camping, state award-winning design and seamstress competitions, and gourmet cooking. She always excelled in her school work. Her college years took her to Brigham Young University.During her freshman year she served as assistant manager of the Cougar's men's basketball team led by Coach Frank Arnold. Her duties included keeping player statistics and making orange juice for the team.
Joanne was an employee of The Sinclair Companies for 25 years, beginning her career at Little America. In her early years, she fulfilled many different roles in hospitality, from Duchin Dining Room supervisor in Sun Valley to Assistant General Manager and Director of Human Resources at The Westgate Hotel. Later with Sinclair, she held a variety of administrative assistant positions.
She was very intelligent and a great judge of character. She saw both sides of situations and provided thoughtful and fair advice. She was also very courageous and stood up for what she believed to be right. Always willing to help and endlessly patient, she put the needs of others above her own. She was never unkind.
She loved words and reading. She was witty and had a great sense of humor.A talented seamstress and needle worker, she was also an exceptional baker and candy maker. True to her generous and benevolent nature, she took pleasure in sharing her treats with others.
She gave a life of service to her church, serving as relief society president in the stake and in young women\s presidencies.Many of those young women kept in touch with her over the years. She also taught all ages of Sunday school includingnursery andgospel doctrine.
Joanne was a consummate professional and a wonderful friend. She has been remembered by an outpouring of comments from friends and co-workers. We will miss her smile, kindness, and friendship. That is what mattered most to her and stands as her beautiful legacy to us all. Whenever Joanne stopped by for a visit, she always brought your favorite chocolate or pastry.
Joanne is survived by her three brothers John (Petra), Tom (Linda), and Mike (Kathy) and 12nieces and nephews.A memorial gathering will be held at The Grand America Hotel at a date and time that will be announced.
In lieu of flowers, Joanne requested thatyou be kind to everyone you encounter, forgive someone who has hurt you, beg forgiveness from someone you have hurt, or hug someone close and tell them you love them.
