John Edward Timmons, 85, passed away peacefully spending his final day surrounded by his family including his three sons, daughters-in-law, and several grandchildren.

John was born in Metropolis, Illinois in 1935 to Luther Lee Timmons and Helen Elizabeth Jenkins. He was very proud of the Superman heritage of his little hometown where the newspaper is even called the Daily Planet. John’s siblings Gloria, Elmer and Emma survive him. Over the last few years John enjoyed his frequent phone calls with his brother Elmer.

John married Marilyn Wilcox after they met in Arizona and they remained married for 51 years until her passing in 2011. John missed Marilyn very much after her passing and talked of her frequently to his three sons, Rick, Rob and Ryan. John grew up in very humble circumstances and ensured that his three boys all were able to receive a college education. He was known to frequently brag about the accomplishments of his boys, and occasionally embellish.

John was also blessed with 8 grandchildren (Hillary, Erica, Matthew, Sagen, Ayer, Blake, Cameron and Jason) and 2 great-grandchildren (Golden and Frances) all of whom he was very proud of and enjoyed showing pictures of on his cell phone to anyone that would take a look.

John was also proud of his military service which took him to many countries across Europe and Africa. He served in the Air Force and the Air Force Reserves during the Korean War. John always told his kids that he could never return to France as he had too many outstanding parking tickets!

John was known as a very hard worker and always provided well for his family. John was a highly skilled jet engine mechanic and retired as a driver for UPS. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many leadership positions in his local congregations over the years.

In John’s later years, although his Parkinson’s Disease impacted his life significantly, he never lost his sense of humor and was always cracking a joke and making his family members laugh. He also never lost his love for cars and almost pulled off a car purchase out the back door of his Assisted Living facility, while in quarantine for Coronavirus!

He will be missed dearly and remembered as the wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather that he was.

A family service will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah on Friday August 21st.

Guestbook/Condolences

I love his Airforce picture. He looked like a teenager, and so handsome. He was always fun to be with and funny. So sad. He will be missed very much by all.

John and Marilyn were a wonderful couple! They were so full of fun! My favorite memory is from a talent show at church when he donned outrageous clothes and made a hilarious used car salesman pitch. I laughed until tears came. John was a loving husband and a kind friend. I feel fortunate to have known him. May you all be comforted with happy memories.

Dear Timmons, I’m so sorry you have to lose your Dad and Grandpa. He lived a great life and I’m sure you will all miss him very much. I’m happy I got to know him and Marilyn. And I’m also happy that’s they are together again. May you feel peace and comfort from the only Source which can give that. May you feel of his spirit as you remember so many fond times. With Love, Wanda Brown.

I am saddened at John's passing. He served very well as an Elders Quorum President and later was Executive Secretary. I have experienced the generosity of JOhn and Marilyn, as they cared for our children at the time of my own fathers death. Always faithful, always loyal to the Gospel.

What a character John was. We enjoyed talking with him and he was such a tease. You will be greatly missed, but we are happy you are reunited with your wife. Love Sean and Debra
