Norma Cramer Thomas

1933 ~ 2018

Norma Thomas, a long-time resident of Danville, California (1967-2017), died Thursday the 25th of October at her home in South Jordan, Utah.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 28th, 1933, Norma received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Utah in 1955. Shortly after, she was married to Thomas Milton Thomas in the Logan, Utah Temple. They were blessed with five children, two of whom died at birth. Through most of her married life, Norma served in the Relief Society organization as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved to teach and interact with fellow "sisters" in this organization and served as both ward and stake Relief Society President for many years. She particularly enjoyed the art of homemaking and utilized her creative talents through needle stitchery, sewing clothes, painting, handicrafts and later in life, beautiful machine quilting. She loved to cook and compiled her own cookbooks, taking great delight in cooking and sharing meals with others. If someone was sick, or in need of assistance, she would often be the first to volunteer to provide a meal.

Ever gracious and kind-hearted, she sought out those who were feeling down-trodden by writing them personal notes of encouragement or giving them a phone call to express her love and to cheer them up. She loved butterflies and could often be seen wearing a butterfly pin on her shoulder or blouse. She embodied the symbolism of beauty and grace that is inherent in butterflies.

Norma served with Tom in the Washington D.C. North Mission in 2001 and they also served in the Oakland Temple Family History Center in California in 2002. Tom and Norma recently moved from their original home in Danville that they purchased in 1967 to South Jordan, Utah in November 2017.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Thomas of 63 years of marriage; son, Paul Thomas and wife, Ana Thomas; son, David Thomas and wife, Mar Thomas; daughter, Leslie Rupper and husband, David Rupper. Grandchildren: Alan Thomas, Valeria Thomas, Jocelyn Thomas, Kimberly Thomas, Pamela Rupper, Justin Rupper, Chris Rupper and Emily Rupper.

She was proceeded in death by her sister, Gwen Connell; father, Orvel Cramer and mother, Nellie Cramer.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 30th, at 10 am at the Larkin Mortuary—3688 West 12600 South, Riverton, Utah. There will be an hour of visitation on the same day and place beginning at 9 am for family and friends.
