Sherman Ross Hanseen

1930 ~ 2015

Sherman Ross Hanseen was born September 9, 1930 in Scipio, Utah to Vincent Adolph Hanseen and Lillian Thompson Hanseen. He was brother to Richard, Robert, LaRue, Meredith, Sheridan ‚ his identical twin -, and Glenda.

Sherman passed away peacefully on July 25, 2015 under hospice care at Woodland Park care facility. The family wishes to thank the staff of Woodland Park for their loving care, dedication, and friendship to Sherman.

Sherman graduated from Millard High School in Fillmore, Utah and shortly thereafter both he and his twin brother Sheridan were called to serve LDS missions to Sweden. For a few months on their mission they were even assigned as companions.

Upon returning home from Sweden, Sherman joined the Air Force and later was stationed in Maine where he met his future spouse Nancy Bernice Conners. They were married August 21, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they adopted three children: Andrew Conners Hanseen, Peter Conners Hanseen, and Marianne Hanseen (Spainhower). Sherman and Nancy later divorced.

Sherman attended BYU, the University of Arizona, and the University of Utah where he received a Master of Psychology degree. Professionally, Sherman worked as a school Psychologist in both the Salt Lake and Alpine School Districts.

His interests and passions were eclectic. Sherman loved reading scriptures as well as the many writings of Hugh Nibley. Some of his loves included the poetry of Emily Dickinson, Blue Grass music, fast cars, black licorice, wheat germ, buttermilk, and sardines.

Sherman was preceded in death by his siblings Richard, LaRue, and Sheridan. He is survived by his children Andrew of Blaine, WA; Peter (Jodi) of Kaysville, UT; Marianne Spainhower (Dom) of Kearns, UT; many nieces and nephews, and 10 grand and step-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at the chapel in Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy, Utah at 11 a.m. on Monday Aug. 3rd. A viewing will be held Sunday Aug. 2nd from 6 ‚ 8 p.m., and one hour prior to services on Monday at 10 a.m. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
